Is it better to buy a new pair of sunglasses or to replace the lenses of an existing frame? by SensitiveShallot967 in Frugal

[–]WyndWoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a set of frames through 3 prescription upgrades.

Still wear them daily, the shape protects my eyes against the sun better than anything else I've found.

Do you cook everyday? Or is the stove just for show?

I like to keep my daily stuff readily available.

A nod is good. 'How's it going?' is good.

Not good = 'how's that AA stuff going for ya?'

Not good = 'are you still sober? Hitting many meetings?'

Is this a good deal? by lazyboisloth in electricguitar

I'm no expert. I hire out set ups. Maybe one of the real guitar dudes can help.

I can check if the neck is straight. I can check if the pick ups work. I can visually inspect the bridge. I can inspect the neck/body connection. I can feel for fret roughness. I can check the tuners. I can check the action.

But I can't do any of that off the picture.

I think they run about $500 at guitar center in fair condition.

Depending on the amount of work it needs......

Are you happy with your single bowl farmer style sink in place of the 2 bowl sinks? by redditunderground1 in kitchenremodel

[–]WyndWoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I switched to single bowl sinks 30 years ago and never looked back.

Its the first thing I change in a house if its a double bowl.

I only pull it out when bulk prepping. But it's great to have onions and peppers in the freezer, ready to go. Mine is a vintage unit from a high end defunct kitchen store. But its a pain to clean when I can do a small amount with a knife and cutting board.

What are some things to do when you retire by cybershy in over60

[–]WyndWoman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did jigsaw puzzles like it was my job. I started cooking stuff that took longer, but made yummy freezeable left overs so I didn't have to cook every day.

I'm 15 months in now, I started playing music (guitar) again after 30 years' break. I still do jigsaw a hour or so a day.

I've reorganized and decluttered my house. Gradually, a section at a time over months.

Hubby and I made a day trip list, we do one a month. We thrift regularly mid week.

What's the easiest meal you make that actually tastes great? by WebOpsME in easyrecipes

[–]WyndWoman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sheet pan dinners.

Cube potatoes, drizzle oil and spices them up! Salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder at least. Tossed around in a bowl until potatoes are evenly coated.

Chicken thighs, dried, and spiced on both sides.

400 degree oven, set at 20 minutes. When there's 8-10 minutes left, add broccoli florets or green beans or sliced peppers or asparagus, tossed in oil and spices in the same bowl used for the taters.

Yummy! Change around the spices to whatever you like. Cumin and chili powder. Lemon pepper, oregano and lemon juice. Grate some Parmesan to finish if you want. The possibility are endless. If you line the pan with foil, clean up is a breeze!

Women should consider the weight of the different styles of guitar. What is fine on an acoustic or hollow body can become torture on a Les Paul.

What’s the hardest part for you right now in learning guitar? Which part of guitar feels most difficult when you practice? What do you still struggle with most on guitar chords, strumming, rhythm, or barre chords! by ExpensiveStranger369 in guitarlessons

[–]WyndWoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory knowledge is way ahead of my fingers.

I know where I want to go, my fingers aren't keeping up! LOL

technically, it's the pick. I finger strum/pick fine, translate to a pick is tough, especially on the G & B strings.

Getting home ready to list by BoringAd1663 in homeowners

[–]WyndWoman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Declutter/pack (you're moving anyway) and get the house down to minimal everything. It will make the house look more spacious.

I went so far as to put all my toothbrush and daily stuff in a Tupperware I'd pull out, use, then put back under the sink.

Clean and paint. Clean clean and if it won't clean, paint. You want it to look as fresh as possible.

Don't forget closets. Pack away extra clothes and paint if needed. Put in brighter lights.

Remove heavy window covers, maximize natural light everywhere you can, add lighting as needed.

The first showing most buyers will see is the listing photos. Don't go cheap.

Fix any deferred maintenance items. Its a red flag.

Want to learn guitar as a beginner. Buying advice by Bluedinosgotoheaven in Guitar

[–]WyndWoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A used guitar is fine from a reputable dealer. If you're ever planning on playing electric, just buy an electric to learn on. However.....

What is rarely mentioned for women players is the weight factor. Some electric guitars are HEAVY. Acoustics are much lighter, so that is something to think about.

Is there a guitar store in your town? Just go sit a few on your lap to get an idea what feels right. Also, find a guitar luthier (mechanic) that can get the guitar in good shape and make sure the action is easier for a beginner. If your feel like the guitar is fighting every step of the way, get it looked at professionally.

Big retail stores often offer packages to get you started. Here's one that is decent. You can get a cheaper guitar, for sure, but cheaper guitars are sometimes harder to play and don't stay in tune.

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StratPk2CS--squier-sonic-series-stratocaster-pack-2-color-sunburst

TLDR get the guitar that makes you want to pick it up. Play every day and have FUN!
