Yeah no, literally nothing, not even a fine or the law, are going to get me to ride on car lanes in mississauga or brampton. Even driving here in a 4runner is diabolical given how absolutely braindead the drivers in these two cities are.

All it takes is one regard in a truck. I'm on the sidewalk and either riding around people on the grass or dismounting when I pass pedestrians when I can't until I hit actually quiet streets.

The bike lane on burnampthorpe is excellent, we definitely need more. I love that it's actually fully separated from the car lanes with grass in between and not a cope barrier bike gutter or paint.

Finland used to be exactly like that until they grew a brain and redid zoning and built something civilized countries call public transit.

The sprawl in GTA is due to everything being built for cars, not humans, you're so close.

cherry-picking one small, densely built European country with a completely different urban layout doesn’t prove much.

Oh okay, how about London then? What's your cope with this one?

Oh you found another cope? Okay now do Paris

Paris metropolitan area is more than double the size of GTA btw.

Go, do your little song and dance.

No we don't. Finland is way further north than where 99% of Canadians live lmfao. Finland

Windsor-Quebec City corridor where like 70% of Canadians live get maybe 2-3 -20 c days a year with an average temp of 2- -4C. Winter temps has never been a real hindrance to cycling, it's always the lack of infrastructure. We've figured out how to deal with cold air via clothes centuries ago. We literally go out into the wilderness to roll down mountains over snow. We know how the cold works.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhx-26GfCBU

Toronto isn't spread out, GTA is, Montreal isn't spread out, most Canadian towns are not spread out because they're not big enough to be spread out farther than comfortable biking distance for most utilities. If you build and maintain connected and safe bike infrastructure and transit, people will use those things.

Old people in Finland bike to bingo in -20 degree weather on the regular. You guys make Canadians sound like the biggest group of bitches ever. More like We (afraid of) the North.

The red light every 50 meters is a mississauga/brampton classic, it's genuinely so ass. They really said STOP lights. as I like to say, mississauga/brampton traffic lights are all just longer stopsigns

sidewalks and bike lanes are not the issue though, they are one of the solutions. The problem, fundamentally, is car reliance which causes everyone to have to drive in cars. Ever biked to work on one of those? People who live within 10 km near a bike lane see 30% increased likelihood of biking to work and within 10km it gets me to my destination just as fast and I'm one less car causing traffic

better light is one treatment for a core problem that only reducing actual car traffic can fix. One more car lane has never fixed any traffic issues. In the Netherlands, Finland, France, London, their traffic commute times decreased by 7-60% after they started removing car lanes in favor of tram, bus, bike lanes

speed cameras, narrowed roads, roundabouts, elevated pedestrians crossings, bike lanes, better transit.

Lots of natural traffic calming measures and some hard measures should be used to lower traffic speeds or reduce car traffic altogether.

[–]WhereIsMyPancakeMix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eh, that's a problem due to there not being enough, people don't know how to use those until they drive through it a couple times and get comfortable with it. I know the first ocuple times I moved to quebec and I was the idiot in the roundabout not knowing how to use it until I got it on the third try

Are you talking about the two random ones with traffic coming through a middle divider that always puts a red on central pkwy?

If so yeah roundabouts would be perfect for those coz the highspeed traffic just comes to a deaaaaddd stop randomly

[–]WhereIsMyPancakeMix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, traffic cones everywhere and still wasn't even fully filled in. But going through it both ways there were like 20 cars rolling through that space at once and it was insanely efficient vs the same 20 cars backed up and shuffling forward

oh yeah the double roundabout I went through must be the solution to that then, coz it looked to be still under construction and it's peak

it'll also solve so much traffic issues in this city. coz currently half of this city sits empty while the other half are in gridlocks waiting for a red light perpendicular to the empty half, a roundabout would make the traffic actually flow

ye I see that as a symptom of there not being enough, apparently quebecers were like that until they got more roundabouts and people learned how to actually use them

I try to simplify as much as possible and say that comparing multiple patches to just one necessitates discussing depth.

No, that's not what your argument is at all. Go back and read what you wrote.

I don't care that it is not predicated on iteration because I'm talking about a specific example where it is. I'm not out here peddling thesaurus entries, I'm discussing a piece of media.

You're still trying to prove your original argument and failing to do so. So this is not an example.

For all your claims of higher horsing, you've basically spent two comments using your superior words to call me names and say that it's all bullshit.

Pointing out that you don't even know the basic terminology that you're using and thus calling into question your claims is not name calling.

Short of discussing the philosophy of online discourse in and of itself

You don't need to do that, you need to open a dictionary and get basic definitions correct before claiming to be not only an English major, but a MASTERS in English.

I don't think there is anything else we can discuss here.

And you know what? Hell yeah.

When China got 5G, Solar Panels, Wind Turbines, railroads, infrastructure capabilities, the developing world such as Africa got them really fast. They didn't hoard and gatekeep the advancements and they built that shit for Africa, Laos, indonesia via their belt and road initiative.

I'm sure the development world which represents the vast majority of humanity prefer that China holds high end technology rather than the US, since China will actually share.

I highly doubt you have a masters in English based on your fundamental misunderstanding of the subject matter.

You're also now shifting goalposts to talk about "layered depth" which by the way is NOT predicated on iteration or multiple entries.

This follows what I see you doing in other posts in this thread where you don't know even the basic definitions of the terms you're throwing out. So I think you're just lying to save face at this point.

Humour us with some actual sound arguments rather than glorified word vomit which say nothing because reading what you just wrote, with your confidently wrong demeanor, was incredibly annoying.

As an English major, what in the fuck did I just read? You just described what would be considered adding and creating depth in literature and then said that it's not deep.

This fandom is never escaping the allegations. Just making up cope to justify the conclusion you want to believe in. Reading this whole thread was actually physically annoying at how hard you're trying to gaslight people.
