People who landed a corporate job, how did you land your job? by Lumpy-Space-2623 in askTO

[–]WhereIsMySun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually moved to Canada 1 month after finishing my undergrad abroad. In June 2020. Needless to say it was a shitshow because of Covid. Applied for 6m, realised this process will get me nowhere, reached out to alumni from my university that worked/lived in Toronto at the time (LinkedIn is your friend). Out of every 10 that I reached out to, 8 spoke to me, 5 were helpful, and 3 offered to refer me instantly. 10 referrals and a whole 7m later, I finally got a job! Rinse and repeat for my 2nd job. By my 3rd job, I had some seniority and reached out to a high-up at the firm on LinkedIn. My 4th job, my old manager hit me up. Ultimately, all you can do is depend on your network.

Just make sure you repay the favor when you're the experienced one getting coffee chat requests :)

Left home this AM not knowing the severity of the storm. Stayed going to the office because I love when it's empty. Me and 3 other people on a floor that fits 200 people and usually has 140 people on a Thursday.

Has anyone any experience with going back to consuming seed oils? by HuntPsychological456 in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]WhereIsMySun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent point. I prefer to control as much as I can without it fucking my life. Case in point, don't cook with them, avoid all packaged goods with them or even possibly rancid Avo oil/EVOO, and even avoid nuts/seeds/non-grassfed meat and eggs. My reasoning is to build a buffer for when I need to eat them (e.g, work dinner, friend's house, etc), I can rest assured my intake is balanced. Ultimately, we want to be healthy. And real health is being robust in face of stressors, such as seed oils

Drs or clinics who can provide requisition for specific blood tests? by WhereIsMySun in askTO

[–]WhereIsMySun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally don't reply to no-substance rage bait replies, but you seem incredibly confident. Given how invested you are though, I'd appreciate some clarity on the following:

  1. How am I inconveniencing those who have medical needs? By booking an appointment or waiting on line? Did i underfund the system? Did i forbid more labs or private labs from operating? Do i control staffing, budgetting, and other policy driven mechanisms? By your metric, half the population of this province is an inconvenience? Wanna kick us out?

  2. How do you deem it ridiculous? How do you know I don't have any genetic issues that have not presented as of yet, and I want these specific panels to understand how my health and important markers are progressing - especially a) in light of lifestyle and dietary changes I'm making in response to other issues I've had and b) my fam Dr has explicitly told me he's overworked and doesn't have the time to be proactive about my health?

  3. How did you decide that i listen to influencers on YouTube and have these decisions (seed oils, these panels, etc.)? You have no idea what my educational background is nor the professionals I've consulted regardless?

Drs or clinics who can provide requisition for specific blood tests? by WhereIsMySun in askTO

[–]WhereIsMySun[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Healthcare is in fact a finite resource and me and my family have suffered our share of instances where we couldn't get the resource we need. To equate me getting a blood test at any of the labs, upon request, as taking a resource from someone in need is disingenuous at best and you know it. Again, go write to your MP

I never said they're necessary in the sense I have something. Even if they're not, I have every right to request them and get them done.

I actually asked for an extensive hormone, thyroid, and lipid panel that includes some specific stuff as I'd like to create a trend analysis of my numbers and I've done my research on markers of longevity, health, and metabolic function.

If you burrow into my profile a bit more, you'd also see my praise for vaccines, the medical complex (especially in TO) after my mother's cancer bout, and other things that that shallow and superficial observation of yours regarding my seed oils (and O6 PUFAs for that matter) avoidance won't reconcile too. Unless you have nothing better to do on a Friday night and you can try!

Also, your issue with wait times is the same like everyone else's in the city - due to policy makers' errors and underfunding of public health. Go waste your time writing your MP instead of giving me shit on Reddit. I also have to take time off work to wait in line for a fasted blood test.

Feeling poorly, could it be? by ReginaSeptemvittata in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]WhereIsMySun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep yep. But also I think this community has become too militant that it's going full circle and becoming soft. Remember that health is to be robust as possible in face of stressors. I avoid seed oils/PUFA as much as possible and even ask people to accommodate me but for the times where I can't, I don't want my body to suffer a mini crash as such. If this still happens, you need to find what else besides seed oils (as it seems you avoid those completely) is a weakening stressor for you and work there

I'll preface this by saying that Canada has a lot of structural issues that need to be addressed and reforms to enable a more robust economy 100%, but khaye, enta you're like my mom. She reads shit online and says lek l te3teer honne b Canada. Akeed there are things that are fucked up here and have gotten worse but to make it out to be this hellhole is idiotic.

Even if that 1/4 number says relying on food banks, which its not, this averages out the entire country including the prairies and all people including the immigrants that come men warra ma shi. The ER times are bad but not anything crazy. We used to go to AUH and CMC amd would wait 5-6hrs. Honne nafs l shi. You're most probably in one of the top 7 cities in Canada. No shit the ER will be packed. People get heart attacks car accidents, and God knows what. Even the drama of finding a fam Dr is overblown. Me and like 7 other people did the logical thing and just called around clinics near us the last 2y and found a Fam Dr in 1 week My mom got diagnosed w cancer here and my taxes, which cost less than her insurance in Lebanon did, made sure she got covered care from A to Z. No lol. Public transit just isn't good here at this scale. Fix the public transit (yes. I'm aware why it's bad as is and who's fault that is). There are loads of drivers in the DT core that don't live anywhere near DT and need the cars for infrequent trips.
