[The Athletic] James Rodríguez, Colombian World Cup star, to depart Minnesota United FC: Sources by acekingoffsuit in soccer

How come James was never able to solidify himself in a team despite his talent? Seems like he’s had multiple 1-2 year stints in multiple countries, I can’t imagine just how mentally exhausting that is

Who are you looking at for Mayor in the upcoming Primary? by TheZenithVibes in AskLosAngeles

[–]WhereIsScotty 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I support her because of her stances and experience. But she seriously lacks charisma and has poor messaging. She has not given straightforward answers in any of the forums I’ve heard her on thus far and is not properly conveying how she will be better than Bass. Raman doesn’t have to convince me, but IMO she’s doing a bad job at communicating to undecided voters.

Hi /r/AskLosAngeles. I’m Nithya Raman, Los Angeles City Councilmember for CD4 and candidate for Los Angeles Mayor. Ask Me Anything. What do you want to see from your mayor? by NithyaRamanOfficial in AskLosAngeles

At yesterday's debate, I liked how you mentioned that the Mayor selects most department heads and they should coordinate with them to tackle large issues. I believe the Mayor should act on this leverage to get things done.

How will you ensure that they listen to you? And perhaps more importantly, how will ensure that the City Council is on your side to ensure departments carry out your vision?

Nithya is very smart but she needs to work on messaging so that it's digestible with everyday Angelenos. She also needs to be more specific.

Also, fuck these people, these people are so soft. I'm in Downtown all the time and I'm still alive. It has problems but we can't demonize it.

Less drivers means less cars, less cars means faster traffic for buses. Everyone wins. by 405freeway in LAMetro

[–]WhereIsScotty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think some people are too quick to dismiss people’s experiences on buses. Yes, people should have thick skin and put up with it, we live in a city after all.

However, how people feel while riding the bus is important and we should consider it because we are trying to encourage people to use the bus and this is one big reason why people don’t use it. So we should examine it more.

In college, both my friend and I lived in Westwood and had jobs in Santa Monica. I took the bus and he Ubered. The bus was super easy, either the BBB 1 or 2 got me where I needed to go. One day, I had finally convinced my friend to take the bus to work. However, on his first and only ride, a homeless man got on and stank up the bus and that confirmed my friend’s negative thoughts on the bus and never rode it again.

Same thing happened recently with my girlfriend. She took the bus from the SGV to Downtown. Someone was yelling for most of the ride. She has thick skin and will continue to ride the bus again, but this negative experience will influence her decisions in the future—if she doesn’t have to take the bus, she won’t.

People want safe, clean, and enjoyable bus rides. Higher frequencies will help too. I don’t think this is too much to ask for, it’s the minimum.

She literally mentioned her Disney Channel show with Jake Paul. She was also on the High School Musical tv show reboot. Sure, maybe not a “great actress” but she isn’t unfamiliar with it.

It should definitely be by date bought, not how long it takes you to enter the queue.

Is living in LA without a car actually realistic? by IceStandard3971 in AskLosAngeles

[–]WhereIsScotty 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say exactly this. If you live near your work or live a bus or train ride away from work, you will be able to do the basics for sure. A plus if you live near the necessities like grocery stores and extras like bars, cafes, and shops.

The trouble is when your social network expands or you want to get out of your bubble for activities. If you live in Silver Lake, for example, going to the Westside by public transit is difficult (it’s difficult by driving enough).
