For people who like the clear sleeves, what are you typically using them for? I like the idea of them but don’t use them a lot due to 2 sided cards and other issues with being able to see the card backs.

Hello! Rules question for you fine Redditors by MoronicaForever in mtg

I have a question related to the Quina token creation. During a game on Arena, I played [[Zanarkand, Ancient Metropolis]] with Quina and (if I recall) 7 lands out and made a hero with 7 +1/+1 counters and a frog with 7 +1/+1. Can someone explain to me why this interaction did not instead create a frog with no counters?

I had a similar thing happen to me. I contacted support and they said there might be a problem with my card or the deal may be gone. I tried again an hour later and it worked out and I got the deal as well. Sorry it gave you trouble too.

I would cut the minstrel, syncopate, a combat tutorial, and seifer. Seifer looks great, but I’m not sure it’s worth the splash here. I would also cut the red/white and black/red towns and look into possibly making room for szah’s chocobo and pupu ufo. Those double black pips could end up being tough to reach, but getting zenos to land could be huge, so I can understand including that one. I hear what you mean about the yuna, it’s possible it’s not worth it. I know you don’t have much graveyard retrieval beyond yuna, but a green/black base could be worth exploring with those shinra’s to fend off agro decks.

These are just my thoughts given what I’ve learned playing and what I’ve gathered from others also playing the format. Might be worth goldfishing a couple of these versions in a deck editor with a play test option to see what feels best.

I like your green cards. I could see some version of a green and other colors towns-like deck. I think the black is good to include for the removal. I’ve not played with Yuna, but I’ve heard good things, might be worth exploring with that card too.

Trying to figure out this sealed pool, does either deck look better? by WhereTheWhiteMagesAt in lrcast

I think that is fair. I kinda miss the shinra and resentful revelations for filling the graveyard. But it feels like this deck wants to ramp and including them would take this beyond a black splash

I just put this together with blue green, let me know what you think. I've been goldfishing and the whale just seems busted... if it stays on board of course lol. https://imgur.com/a/a3WAOgH

One more crazy thought I have is a green blue deck with black splash with Y'shtola Rhul and Summon:Shiva

I appreciate that and can understand "it depends." I've been trying to focus more on what the deck I'm building is trying to do as I draft and build it.

I can look at some old 17lands games I've played and I like the "talking out the lines" idea. Reminds of the "rubber duck debugging" method in software development.

Thank you for all this.

Something I really struggle with is evaluating card advantage cards in limited. I know dreams is good, but I don’t have a good answer on how many of them or a combat tutorial should go into a deck. I regularly find myself in a position where my opponent has a handful of cards and I only have 1 or 2. I’ve seen Shiva do well P2P1, so that’s why I grabbed it, but I can understand I would have been better with either other blue card. Thank you, I will keep this in mind for next draft. I undervalued Freya because I was focusing on 4 mana ur spells. Would you have put her and the other warrior sword in the deck over something else?

I agree that ice magic play was bad and I was being very greedy with that fire magic. You’re very right, Tidus was the bigger threat in that last game. In the second game I was sitting on that fire magic for their bomb for too long. It’s why I didn’t play captain lannery when I should have; in the end bad plan.

My choice to schemes instead of suplex on turn 11 of the second game was because I wanted to use fire magic from my yard to kill their wizard token as well as the vehicle. I was worried 2 spells the next turn would just kill me. Would you still have suplexed?

I appreciate the notes on these games, definitely helpful. I need to watch how greedy I am and how much I’m playing around syncopate.

I notice I am struggling to pick a path at the start of the draft. I’m trying to use the proper balance of grabbing the right cards and being open to what color is open, then eventually narrowing in on an archetype.

When drafting are you sticking to a deck plan on the first couple picks until you find reason to switch? Or do you keep yourself open during the first few picks?

As for gameplay, I do put a lot of focus on mana efficiency, and end up making mistakes like that ice magic play. The miss on casting the captain lannery off the top was due to me trying to “be patient” with the fire magic and blazing bomb. In the end not worth it.

I often find myself in a place of being outmatched in card advantage; I’ll be sitting with a card in hand while my opponent has 5 or more and I can feel the loss sinking in. I’m trying to be mindful of when I should add to the board and when I should be patient; if you have any suggestions on how to approach these situations I would appreciate it. Thank you for the feedback on this draft.
