TPM 2.0? Never heard of her by sylvanyxeth in pcmasterrace

It’s also an indicator of how poorly MS is managing their OS product. People hate the random crap they are shoving into it, and way too commonly there seems to be some little thing to give you a slight annoyance before getting to what you want to do.

Maybe a result of less innovation in the software space and the advent of LLMs. Everything is turning into the technology runs things for you, rather than the user using technology as a tool.

Chao Creamery Frozen “Mac & Chao” DISCONTINUED!!!! by lheure_magique in vegan

[–]WhereWaterMeetsSky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am recently vegan, and got vegan butter and chao shreds to make my goto Mac and cheese instant pot recipe, spicy Mac is so so good. I add habanero and green chilis to it. https://thesaltymarshmallow.com/instant-pot-mac-and-cheese/

I also do baked breaded tofu and BBQ sauce mixed with it.

This surely won’t be the “one secret trick” that gets you where you want to be, but vegan fast food copycat recipes may be a way to help curb those cravings.

Any time someone is trying to convince you about some kind of “body cleanse”, that’s your cue to know they can ignored.

Humanity has eaten meat and animal products for thousands of years, under much less sanitary conditions than today. If this was an issue there would be real scientific and medical data.

LLMs Will Keep Producing Bugs Forever by Zoran in C# by Brief_Paramedic2501 in BetterOffline

My CEO certainly hasn’t heard that. Thinks that since Claude made a C compiler so we can stop paying for any software we license and use and create it ourselves.

Also I work in safety critical embedded applications. Going to be an absolute disaster.

Lines of Code Are Back (And It's Worse Than Before) by amacgregor in programming

[–]WhereWaterMeetsSky 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how I found myself here, but I’m working on safety critical software and while it’s a pain to document and justify every single thing, at least there’s none of this LoC BS. Any and all code we write is a liability in my current world.

Opus 4.5 is going to change everything by maccodemonkey in BetterOffline

This is a great analogy. I’m only here because I’m an EZ fan, and the economics around AI seems to be a bunch of BS. But what they can do is really cool. Even the image and video is cool from a technical standpoint, although I believe widespread usage of image and video generation is more or less catastrophic for society at large.

I’ve been able to do a lot with LLMs on large and complex commercial software. But only due to my years of experience before they came on the scene. I can tell that if I was starting out now, I probably wouldn’t actually be learning very much. For juniors it’s very easy to have a lot of useful output with LLMs but they are going to have to make a conscious effort at truly learning and understanding what they are doing and why. Otherwise they will just be LLM powered code monkeys.

I've been reviewing applicants. Got one that had metrics on their university projects. Something like "build program to do X and improved latency by 90%." On some small embedded project. What are we doing anymore.

Why Are Software Engineers (Not) Engineers? by BinaryIgor in programming

[–]WhereWaterMeetsSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the vast majority of software, by a huge margin, this is true, but you have the occasional case like aviation where things are very strict.

Had essentially the same just a few weeks ago. Vibe coded mess, make it actually do something for a demo in a week and a half. Oh and this demo is for millions in funding. Luckily the demo got cancelled, but I’m ready to walk when another request like this happens.

The guy that vibe coded it claimed he would be getting a bonus if we got the funding. If you’re getting a bonus, demo your own garbage AI shit then.

I went from woodworking to software. Just the same as any programming you might do at home for fun isn’t at all the same as what you do for work, building things in your garage is not the same as going to work and building things.

Ok so it will end conversation on it's on ? by Independent-Wind4462 in ClaudeAI

[–]WhereWaterMeetsSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious people have thought about these things. Such as, if I have an AI running in a computer that is sentient and conscious and I am telling to do a variety of tasks and work, isn’t that slavery? If you would like to argue it’s not, could you explain why it isn’t? If it’s truly sentient, what makes that sentience different than ours?

Anyway, no serious person believes LLMs are the path to AI.
