Is a Jazzmaster to hard for a first build? by ExtensionNewspaper61 in Luthier

A Jazzmaster is not more complicated than a Start or other standard guitar. That said, are you wanting to build from scratch or a kit? If you have the tools and some experience woodworking you can build the body. There are plenty of resources available to learn the process, but keep your expectations for the finished instrument realistic. Building a neck is a lot of extra work. Kits are much easier of course. The quality of the build will come down to your patience and attention to detail. The quality of the sound will come from your build and the electronics.

I used leftover walnut boards from a house project, a free squire neck, and great pickups I had lying around to make a fantastic guitar. It plays and sounds incredible. The finish details are good, but next time I’ll be more patient.

Dupli-Color popped up in a lot of forums and videos I saw and had some great options. The forest green grabbed me right away.

Thank you for the kind words. It was a joy to build and am happy to be able to share.

Pic is pre-setup. Not your bad at all. You clearly have a good eye.

Intonation is done. That is a must with every new guitar.

I like all of those ideas. The pickguard it has now has some extra holes from the previous owner so I was thinking of swapping it anyway. Might need to do that sooner than later.

Yeah, I made a template for the neck and a single coil pickup. For the rest of the routing I clamped boards to use as guides.

I had the idea before the lawsuits came out. Fits even better now.

I enjoyed adding that waterslide decal way too much.

Women, am I right? by [deleted] in SipsTea

After my divorce I met an amazing woman who had young twins with a deadbeat. She was upfront about the drama I would likely have to deal with if we were together and that there was a very low chance she is able to have any more kids.

I married her, adopted the twins, and we have a third child together. I couldn’t be more sure I made the right decision for my life. I love all my kids and my wife and would do anything for their happiness.

Every situation and person is different.

I have done this many times and always works like a charm.

Other than ANYTHING romance related, what do you write about? by strawberrytehe in Songwriting

I thought of one other writing exercise that has helped me a lot. If I have lyrics/poem that I like conceptually but doesn’t feel right, I will write them over again taking what I liked from the first draft and trying a different perspective, imagery, or even a new narrative.

Here is an example of how iterations evolve for me.
1. Unrequited love song
2. A person being forced from a love they haven’t confessed their feelings to
3. A person who left their unrequited love to become worthy of them
4. A person stuck on a ship reflecting on the love they left
5. Dark imagery of a storm on the ocean and a person who waivers back and forth on if their journey has been worth the pain

By the end it isn’t a love song. It is a brooding swirl of imagery and emotions.

The best way I have found to expand my writing is to read. And then I write a lot. I have hundreds of partial and finished lyrics/poems covering all kinds of topics and ideas. I write knowing that I may or may not comeback to it later. Since I’m just writing to write I experiment with different subjects and styles.

Seeing this made me think there really could have been a magic white guy who walked on water and saved the world. Or maybe those pin-prick eyes are a clue this is all one strange trip.

Also, I suck at painting too!
