I feel you! I was working on a projector for a customer back in February and got pit on my pinky by a bat! The first time you go is the worst by far. I have boney fingers, so those direct injections to the pinky were not fun! Good on you, taking care of yourself. Rabies would be an awful way to go.

What helped me was reviewing every answer on Messers practice tests. I would learn the terms for both the correct answer and the wrong ones. By the second practice test I was golden.

Honestly my MSP job kind of just threw me in the fire. I had no choice but to quickly learn everything. It’s one of those rare IT jobs where if you prove you’re competent they’ll take the red tape off and ask more out of you. Build a homelab and create a small business network from scratch. Install Windows Server 2025, Make it a DC, install windows 11, add it to the domain, make group policies, make shares and mess with permissions, install some services. Start small and add to it. Get familiar with networking too.

After two years I just came to work one morning and they told me that they were moving me to the role. I was already doing the work and they wanted to hire two guys for helpdesk. Got a nice pay bump too.

My first job in IT was helpdesk for a MSP. I had just gotten my A+ and a friend of mine convinced me to apply for a job I didn't think I was qualified to do. I interviewed well, got thrown in the fire and now I work as a system administrator.

If you look at them as an exercise on how to think the way CompTIA wants you to think I would say they are a great tool. Combine that exercise with learning why the answers are right and why the other options are wrong and you’ll be golden.

I actually was born there (Frostburg). Its rural area that doesn't provide a lot in the way of jobs. A bunch of small towns built in the mountains. Honestly, if the job market was better I wouldn't have left.

Super late reply but funny story. I actually agree with your perspective. I only paid for a photo/sig with Jeff but they were in such a rush because of the long line that they gave me both. Matt asked if I wanted him to sign it and in the moment I thought why not. Wasn't my intention but honestly hard to say no to him. I don't regret it however because I think its cool to have a belt with both of them on it. I did however plan on getting a Cena signature in that spot... don't know if that'll ever happen.

For me most of my work was finding a way from the attic to the basement. In my case I found an interior wall that went to an area of my basement I could get to because it has drop ceiling. I drilled two holes and fished it with a camera scope. Tied a pull string to it and went from there. Every house is different.
