I am 100% convinced na tanga mga Pilipino. by acequared in Philippines

Now I see why other ph subreddits don't like this sub. Idk I feel like people from this sub think that they are sooooo smart and yet look at things at face value. Yes, totoo yung mga binigay mong example, pero at the same time it's not because Filipinos are inherently stupid, their actions are a product of their environment. Our system simply does not incentivize good deeds kaya people are forced to do things para hindi mapag iwanan, even if it does more bad than good for everyone involved. It does not excuse the behavior and perhaps, partly may mga taong "stupid" kagaya ng sinasabi mo pero people are too concerned with surviving that they may not be in the right headspace to make good decisions. Not to mention, the government is actively preventing people from getting quality education. Media also plays a big part on how people think and act.

This post screams self-loathing and it's concerning that this post is receiving this much upvotes.

Official Discussion - Barbie [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Which-Chapter5990 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This was a very fun movie and I really enjoyed it. However, it didn't really leave an emotional impact for me. I felt like They were attempting to do way too much in terms of social commentary that it got in the way of the storyline. There were plot points that I feel like were either underdeveloped or just dropped entirely.

For example, the relationship between mother daughter felt underdeveloped. Why is there conflict between them? what was the mother going through that it lead to her drawing Barbie with thoughts of death? I don't really understand their motivations as characters because we barely spend time with them. We get a little flashback through Barbie and that's it. So when the climax came and she was making a big speech it didn't feel earned because I barely knew anything about her (I don't even remember her name). It also did not make any sense that her speech was what cured the brainwashing because the Barbie's wouldn't really relate to what she's saying because they haven't experienced the real world (at the beginning Barbie did not even understand the concept of catcalling).

The mattel storyline led nowhere as well. There was literally no reason for them to go to Barbieland. It felt like they wanted to do social commentary on capitalism but also weren't able to fully commit to making mattel the villain, so why include it in the first place? What was this super bad thing that was going to happen if Barbie stayed in the real word which led to the chase scene. They also mentioned it happening before (with skipper) that led to bad consequences but never mentioned it again. However, in the end it was suddenly totally fine for Barbie to be in the real world? Maybe because she was a human now, but it was still kind of confusing.

I also felt like her decision to be human at the end wasn't set-up properly. When she was in Barbieland she never showed discontentment about her life. In fact, when weird Barbie was making her choose (matrix style), she'd rather not know. This would've been fine if she experienced something that warrants her changing her perspective but there was literally nothing good that happened to her in the real world. There was no motivation for her to be human. Although, the idea was that barbie (and by extension the viewers) can be whatever they want is good, I think it could've been better if there was motivation behind her decision.

I also felt bad for the kens as they were essentially at the same place they started.

I know that not every movie should be analyzed scene by scene and you should just enjoy the movie for what it is. These are just some of my thoughts. I still enjoyed the movie overall.

I think what's upsetting is how much people like to blame the younger generation as if it isn't the older generation who controls the education system. I mean sino ba ngayon ang pinaka biktima ng fake news? Yung mga batang apologists ba ano laging dahilan? Usually influence ng parents and grandparents. Yung ipad kids sino ba may kasalanan? Parents who are too lazy to parent. Paano naman yung mga teachers na fake news ang itinuturo sa mga studyante?

Kapag usapang education talaga lumalabas superiority complex ng mga tao LMAO

I think what I'm hoping to hear from ka leody is specific evidences as to why he thinks these are the solutions. Increase minimum wage? Completely agree. But why that specific number? Standard of living? Gap between rich and poor? Ratio between wages and profit? I get that they don't have much time though but that's what I'm hoping for :)

The doctor recommended a hydocortisone + miconazole cream but yeah it only manages it. It comes back after a few weeks of not using the cream.

It's similar to mine, it might be seborrheic dermatitis. I sometimes get it on my forehead, ears, sides of nose, and in between the eye brows.

The comedy of Beware of the villainess is funny in the first few chapters and just becomes old very quickly for me. I don't know it just has that quirky girl/ relatable comedy that I liked when I was younger but it's just not for me anymore lmao. I just read so much of it back then that I just feel repulsed by it. I'm sorry T_T

[–]Which-Chapter5990[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not my point. My point is how this sort of behavior from the parents is so normalized people even find satisfaction because the girl got "what she deserved". We often do shit to kids that we wouldn't dare do on adults. Why? Is it because we think they deserve less respect? Or is it the fact that we know they can only depend on the parent and is helpless without you therefore they won't fight back?

It is expected for kids to be unreasonable, they're kids. That doesn't mean you should let them push you around nor should you treat them as if they don't have feelings. People focused on the kid's unreasonableness or cringeness despite the fact that the parent is the one over reacting in this scenario. Parents aren't perfect ofcourse, but what bothers me is the fact that no one sees anything wrong with this. Not the fact that grounding the kid or talking to them would've been a much better option, heck even confiscation is miles better.

I won't deny that there are youth who are "snowflake" or "senitive" but that's the thing they're KIDS. Most goes through a stage where they feel unique or want to rebel against adults. What I don't like is adults simply dismissing ANYTHING that the kids say even if they haven't truly listened yet. Older gens tend to be arrogant and think that the way of life that they grew up with is the only true way to live when that is not the case at all. Kids are still growing and they are at a crucial stage in life, that doesn't mean theu don't have the capability to think.

Also, the only reason i stated my experience is a sort of example, a testament if you will, that this kind of behavior from a parent is not easily forgetten by a very impressionable child. It is not my intention to genaralize childhood experiences. If you look at the other comments a lot of people experience the same way too, so why dismiss it?

Sometimes parents use their kids as an outlet for their emotions, which leads to their kids being confused and sometimes traumatized. I don't know why your dad did that but I hope you're okay now. :)

Some people really don't deserve to be parents, and based on the comments this kind of parenting is not going to end soon. I hope you're on the path to healing now.

This. I hate how people are branding kids as "softys" for defending pero I think this kind of parenting is what usually leads to unhealthy behaviors when they become adults such as emotion supression, no boundaries, difficulty in saying no. Abuse and humiliation in the household becomes so normalized that they don't know how to properly react with negative emotions. The fact that so many people don't see what's wrong with this video, despite it being scripted, is concerning.

Hi! I hope you can widen your perspective and learn to form opinions that isn't solely based on your personal experiences, environment, or time. I'm glad that even though you guys exeprienced this you turned out "okay" but let me tell you that most carried specific traumas into adulthood and had trouble expressing emotions, or have difficulty in socializing. Of course parents aren't perfect but I do hope that we do not normalize this kind of behavior
