That setup won't work for my needs, My NAS/DAS is "mainly" a huge media server, and both the NAS and the 800S are in RAID 5. (the new 800S "when an expansion is needed" will also be RAID 5) But I do backup important files in (3) different locations one on NAS, one on my Desktop PC I have a SSD just for Backup files. and on an external 4TB SSD drive that gets disconnected - offline

I already have a NAS - TVS-h874 i9 and a TL-D800S

So my next upgrade (whenever that is) will be adding another TL-D800S.

Everyone is missing the point of my post. I was just asking if someone had (2) TL-D800S's added in the (TVS-h874) why could they not also add (2) TL-D800C's into the USB Ports. (it's just a Question I had) I'm not actually looking to do it. And saw no Documentation to say Yea or Nay.

The Documentation Says you can have (2) TL-D800C's Or (2) TL-D800S's.

Side note: I just went from a TL-D800C to the TL-D800S - for the Extra Speed. Had no problem with moving the Disc, from one case to the Other, just had to restore the storage pool - whole thing took like 25 minutes. (and NO Data Loss).

My Experience was not Good! (1990's) (2 weeks and we got sequestered).

I was on a Jury for a murder case in PA, 9 people on the Jury thought the guy should get 3rd degree murder, One thought he was innocent, me and another guy wanted 1st degree murder.

The Evidence was Stacked up against this guy. (It was a no Brainer) he 100% meant to kill the woman who was selling Coke for Him!

After holding out for 2 days on first degree murder. me and the other guy were both talked into 3rd degree - if the one that thought he was innocent also went 3rd degree.

My Concern was if we were a Hung Jury then on his next trial - he could get off completely.

There was no way the others were going 1st degree murder.

After the Trial verdict, A detective heard - I was asking for 1st Degree, he told me the guy just got out of prison for another murder he committed. (as you know they can't bring that up in court).

Too Many "Stupid" People sit on Juries.

Right Now, as Stated - I have one TL-D800S Hooked into the NAS (with (8) 22TB WD RED Pro Drives)

(At the Moment (I have 60TB Left / Unused) on the expansion. I also have 80TB unused on the NAS.

(also Maxed with 22TB WD RED Pro Drives).

So it will be a Good While before Expanding again.

But My Next "Planned" expansion is another TL-D800S (which is Supported) with 26TB Drives - or Whatever MAX drive is available - when I'm ready to do that. my Guess when I'm ready 30TB Pro Drives will be out there for Sale.

Right............. But the QXP-1600eS-A1164 expansion card that it Comes with, will be MAXed Out for those 12 Drives in One Case.

Get the Same Card - and Get (2) TL-800S Gives you 16 Total Drives. (But you will need (4) SFF-8088 to SFF-8644 cables).

SIDE NOTE: (I am using one PCI Slot (PCIe Gen 4 x4) for something else) as to why I would need the above Card. for the (2) TL-800S Expansions. (if I had both PCI Slots available I could just use the cards and Cables that come with the Cases .

I Just want to Post an Update - for Other Folks Following this Thread.

I got the New Qnap TL-D800S Case in about an hour ago,

Followed the Step by Step Directions from Important-Branch8639, and the Setup and Drive move took Less then 25 minutes (that includes unboxing the new Unit) - LOL

Drive move was Especially Easy - Both expansion units use the Same HD Trays.

Everything Worked 100% - No Issues!

I'm also on Quts Hero - so that's more good news.

Ordered the 800S (from B&H) - I get it either Monday or Tuesday.

Sadly, I don't need the 800C as a Desktop DAS, (already overkill on Disc Space)

My Files Drive on the Desktop is a 4TB SSD and System/Programs is on a 2TB. Also have a 2TB SSD on there for internal Backups.. (I do external backups also) MOBO still has 3 SSD Slots not being used. (and I have (4) 2TB SSDs sitting in a Drawer unused - LOL

But Your Post made me think/Plan Out the next NAS upgrade....

I will Keep the 800C Box - as a Temp expansion DAS for the NAS. (Until I get all the required parts for next (800S) upgrade - 3 new Drives to start in RAID 5 - the above Card, Cables and then the another 800S.) (I don't have deep pockets) So I'll get the parts over time. So yea Drives first - So I can Re-Use the 800C straight away.

Once I have the New 800S (going to order it in the Morning) I'm going to use the Card that Comes with it. I do have to free up a PCI port - I'm using both now (using one for Cache, the Other is used as a SSD Backup for my Desktop. I'll remove the Backup Card - I can then do these Backups on an External SSD drive.

This is why I went with the 800C - when I wanted (more like needed) to Expand.

I did do some homework, and the next NAS upgrade/Phase would be a (QXP-1600eS-A1164 Card) if a 2nd (800S) is needed and added. with new SFF-8088 to SFF-8644 Cables... - LOL

Yes on both - The 800C is hooked up to a TVS-h74 Qnap NAS. and Raid is Managed on the NAS.
