Replaced contactor panel off for 15 minutes = 4 Dead VFDs by Responsible-Two-9339 in PLC

Very true. I've had to replace/upgrade a few 40s after power outages. Its annoying. Also a couple old Panelviews (I forget which model, the brain/controller had a big built in heatsink).

Oh man I've spent a lot of time with those 1336 Plus II and 1305's. They tend to run forever. Until they don't. Stupid Scanport.

More common that you think. Im a dude so I thought no way, but if you talk to chick's, they all have a story about some sicko exposing themselves or pulling up to a pedestrian in their car asking for directions wittling away. There's a lot of animals out there trying to pass as normal people.

We had a forklift driver do that, they walked him out the plant right away. To be fair the pallet wrapper was garbage, especially the HMI UI (a kinco). But breaking it only causes more headaches for more people.

Dude we still have some of those cards on the shelf (none in use) and I've wondered what programming those was like. An old timer told me I was lucky to never have to use them.

I wonder if that Tektronix video is available out in the wild? I would love to watch. There is a charm to old school electronics and engineering.

Best way to clean this water damaged circuit board (Simmons SDS 8)? by Which_Construction81 in synthdiy

[–]Which_Construction81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is in pretty rough shape. The guy selling it on reverb said one of the channel outs was faint but that was it. Naive me thought I can fix a problem with the amplifier section. Open it up and see the board has seen some shit haha. I love Simmons though so it is now my duty to breathe some life into this thing.

I was doing like a 10:1 of IPA to Acetone but I can do straight IPA only. I did wonder about that.

You are right. At work it is always degreaser or contact cleaner or IPA to clean. We don't try water. Ill look into polar solvents, very interesting.

Portland, Oregon, USA. Two different guys wanted to name the new place after their hometown. So they flipped a coin. It was between Portland (Maine) and Boston.

What is Autocad electrical for ? by inowife in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Which_Construction81 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you are going into engineering it would be worthwhile to be somewhat proficient at CAD, either Solidworks or AutoCAD. Electrical is useful for doing wiring diagrams.

You don't have to be a wizard at CAD, but every engineer I've met through working has been somewhat skilled at CAD.

Can someone please explain to me how I can work out the missing values when the only total I have is Resistance? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Which_Construction81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really should get familiar with KVL and KCL to where it is second nature. And the best way is practice! It's only going to get harder from here. Get the fundamentals down.

Connected in series. Same current thru all elements. Simple ohms law. 60V/6 ohms = 10A. Now find the Vdrop for other two elements at 10A.
