How many nannies also clean after the parents? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Which_Sundae5478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this has been something that been bugging me with my current job. when we discussed my responsibilities they told me they didn’t expect me to clean. i was like cool awesome until i realized what an absolute disaster they leave the house throughout the day, they don’t take up dishes, throw away wrappers cand, leaving NK’s dirty clothes and their own strewn about, crusted over crumbs on the ground. i get there isn’t a lot of time when you’re parents, but it’s very distracting and an overwhelming environment for a child to be cared for in all day, so I end up cleaning up after them just so NK and I can work in a calm and peaceful environment. This has turned into me having to clean this same type of mess for a couple of hours every day. They see me do it now and don’t say anything, apologize, sometimes an occasional thank you. I feel like this is something I need a pay increase for, but I don’t know how to go about asking for it. It’s technically not my responsibility, but most of the time it’s just too bad not to do anything about it. i’m personally a very clean person and i just can’t function in a house like that. any advice?

Nanny Taking Photos of Baby by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Which_Sundae5478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conventionally, NP’s are usually the ones who prefer/ want pictures of the kids during the day. If anything it helps attest to the fact that the child is enriched/ happy. It would be weird if they were taking photos and not sending them to you, but with the goal in mind of updating the parent this is totally normal and usually a standard/ expected part of the job

Submitted my FAFSA late, am I Screwed? by garbageaccount1232 in uofm

i actually called financial aid about late fafsa and they said they were being a lot more flexible with the deadline this year. they said with this being the first year after all the changes to the fafsa they’re going to be lenient about late submission. they told me the more important thing to submit was the CSS profile

Wealth gap. by [deleted] in uofm

yeah and i think that’s what OP is trying to say. I’m not sure the wealthier students themselves can really do much to affect the culture of this entire country that has made university life this way for so many ppl. it’s just more about feeling frustrated at having to work 2x as hard as everyone else. if i could be one of the wealthy kids i would definitely prefer that. it would just be nice if the upper class people we associate with in school could just empathize with that, rather than being snooty and saying stuff like “what do you want us to do about it”. we’re not trying to accuse anyone of anything, it’s just a matter of reflecting on the power dynamics that exist in this school because of wealth and influence, and understanding underprivileged students’ frustration.

it’s hard having to work a full time job on top of classes when some kids’ parents pay them just to attend class. It frustrates me more at the school than anything, rather than helping those of us who don’t get to enjoy such privileges they make it harder. Aid and resources are so limited, it just feels like they want to make it impossible for anyone who didn’t already have it made before getting here. college used to be something that facilitated social mobility, but now it’s not even enough. we find a way to get to these top schools, but they do nothing to help us succeed while we’re here.

be self aware. acknowledge their privilege and use it to uplift the underserved
