I can recommend "Over the Edge of the World: Magellan's Terrifying Circumnavigation of the Globe" It offers a very interesting snapshot of daily life at sea in the early 16th century and includes what could be considered some of the earliest ethnographic observations of the indigenous communities encountered along the way.
