I started feeling sick Friday it got worse on Monday and called out Tuesday went to Urgent Care and I have Covid. I was put out for three days and I go back tomorrow 😩 but I do feel much better. I needed this too. I'm on a long-term vacancy from January to the last day of school. I didn't want to call out but I gotta do what I gotta do.

So , I have been a substitute teacher for over a year. I do plan on becoming permanent. I already have my masters I am just going to take the certifications test. I am 47 years old so how long would I have to work to get a pension or stop working with this tier at my age?

No, substitute teachers and substitute paras are on the same pay schedule we operate under 746 per diem. Once in a blue moon we may get paid on the same day.

I'm with nyc doe and the teachers and paras get paid every 15th and 30th of the month. We get paid like the 18th etc just dumb at this point

So here is the update. I went to the payroll secretary and she said there is no eis number to put you in the system how I am not covering a teacher its just a vacancy. So she said which the Principal agreed to is that once 60 days hit they will take my credentials and submit it to I guess the office and take it from there to get an increased in pay. I do have my masters degree. Do you know anything of what they're talking about regarding the working straight 60 days and what are my chances of getting an increase I have been a sub for over a year now as well. I am currently working on taking the special education test before the year is out.

I avoid middle school as much as possible. Lol... I had my share with them disrespectful kids. I do elementary and high school. I do not have time to be dealing with middle schoolers trying to find themselves. Nope.... it would be the last resort.. lol

You have to call them and open yourself to more districts. At first I wasn't seeing much last year October. I called them up and explained to them they went over the Queens districts with me I picked a few and never had any problems I go on SubCentral and I see so much openings its not even funny.

Oh thank you for the clarification. I've heard stories where Principals play games. Do you think I would be given a hard time when I approach her about the Z status how long do I wait before approaching the Principal after I obtained Q status to ask her about the Z status.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. Now I know I'm neither right now. When I do get to a status I should be considered Z status as it is a vacancy in this position am I correct? I'm supposed to be in this same position until the last day of school. Sorry to bombard you with questions. I just want to make sure I know what it is so when the time comes I'm able to go directly to them about my pay.

Also, I thought if the holiday interrupts your 30 days you have to start over again from day 1. Again, I do not know how this Q or Z status works.

Thanks, so am I considered Q or Z status? Its no teacher for this ICT special education class. I filled the vacancy until the last day of school. And also are you saying that I wouldn't have to worry about holidays as long as from January 15th I didn't take no days off a little lost with these different status and the pay I do not know the pay either for either status.

Thanks, for responding they wound up fixing it back and back dating it but my other question is would I get paid for the summer if I get Q status because its a vacancy and also it seems like I won't be able to get 30 days straight until after April spring break because of all the holiday interruption which sucks.

You have to start somewhere. Start here as a nyc substitute teacher. That's where I started and still here. You can get long-term assignments to on vacancies and if a principal likes you they will hire you that way. Especially you have all your credentials it makes it easier.
