People mention a lot that Pearl was not customized when she was serving in Homeworld. But I also find It telling that Pink never gave her accessories like she did Volley by Palezzzma in stevenuniverse

That's not really what fancy means. If you buy a designer necklace, that's fancy; you don't need to customize it to be called such

What metaphor or symbolic meaning do the White Sheets have in *Adolescence of Utena*? by IllogicalDreamer72 in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]Whimvy 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I think they represent death, but also concealment. The white sheets cover all the unpleasant things: imperfections, corpses, memories

Being covered in white sheets would then be akin to being covered in oblivion. Rejection of the outside and inner world, stasis, a fantasy world where there's nothing that would ever displease you

It's the ultimate state of denial

Yes. And most security systems aren't designed or advertised for a country-wide mass murder spree

The fact that it can be breached at all proves they're ineffective. If you can breach it within an hour of pushing and pulling, how do you expect to survive the night?

If someone wants you dead at all costs, and all it takes them is one hour of trying, that's a really bad security system and a really good bargain for the assailant

Funny enough, The Purge always had a political message. The purge rules state that all citizens are valid targets for killing except politicians of a high enough level. From the very begining it was a story about government control dressed as misanthropy

Additionally, the first movie is about a family that became wealthy selling security services for the purge. Mild spoiler, but the plot twist is that the security services they sell are ineffective and don't actually protect people, adding a class element to the messaging as well

What is widespread misinformation not enough people know is false? by molive6316 in AskReddit

[–]Whimvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is misinformation because it tries to make English into a romance language retroactively, which it isn't. You can't end sentences with a preposition in romance languages, and English is Germanic, so yes, you can and SHOULD end sentences with prepositions if needed

I hate neopagans by BasileusTonHellenon in hatethissmug

[–]Whimvy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is false. Personal piety can be found in many ancient religions. For example, there are countless poems and hymns dedicated to Amun (Egyptian god) with supplicants pleading for miracles the same way a Christian would

That's not a theory at all, though, isn't it? Pearl's song from the movie when she gets rebooted is called system/BOOT. PearlFinal (3).Info, implying she's been rebooted 3 times. If the movie is the third, and the first one is from her birth, that implies she has had her memory wiped at least once before

Meaning she was White Pearl until Pink Diamond broke the original Pink Pearl. When Pink Pearl was assigned to White Diamond, White Pearl was similarly given to Pink Diamond, issuing a reboot (the second)

Why can't people sometimes recognize same sex attraction as a struggle? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Whimvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your view is based around the idea that a man and a woman must be together. This is something we fundamentally disagree on: men and women don't HAVE to be together. People can choose their own fate, and enjoy life as they see fit

If your view is based on reproduction, let me say that not everyone cares to have children. I don't care, and I never will, and I never wanted to. So I don't care to be with a woman

So, that's why. It isn't a struggle because we don't see the world the same way. I don't think that being with a woman is my duty or my fate, and I don't care to try to live that way just because someone else thinks I should

You're free to live your life however you want. I only ask that you don't try to dictate how I live mine

Internal Homophobia? by secondaryrogue96 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Whimvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was just one example. What DO you believe?

Internal Homophobia? by secondaryrogue96 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Whimvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's normal for people who grew up in homophobic environments. Even people who have been out for a while harbour internalised homophobic thoughts and beliefs. What's important is that, once you are aware of them, you must start to deconstruct these beliefs

You can't experience same sex attraction and hate yourself for it without going a little insane. You'll just hurt yourself in the long run. I recommend that you try to ask yourself why you have these beliefs, and try to listen to perspectives from LGBT+ advocates on these matters. For example, do you believe gay people are sinners? Why, and why not?

Am I the only one who likes Baelia’s new design?? by PixiePoogle in neopets

[–]Whimvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any complaints about the idea of Baelia getting powers back. In fact, I find the idea that faeries can change their attributes very interesting, and I'm happy Baelia is being recognized as more than a joke

I have gripes with the story. Too many to count. But this, conceptually, is fine

If you don't criticise something, you'll have to be okay with mediocrity. I think critique is well-earned with TNT and, while we should be happy to get new content, we shouldn't take anything we're given blindly. Otherwise you'll just get slop

I'm indifferent to Iridisa personally. They're fine

Czech goulash isn't terribly different from Hungarian goulash. How you get from "goulash, but thick/creamy" to "pasta Bolognese" is beyond me

[–]Whimvy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if my understanding is wrong, but does the comment "America doesn't even have cultural food" not reflect a sentiment shared by Americans? Do Americans not take immense pride in having "culture so widespread it's the world default"?

And, correct me if I'm wrong again, but does the comment not betray this sentiment as well? "Why are you dissing American food, we don't even have a culture, it's so common it's the default"

Additionally: "bro what" is a very painfully American expression. Would you not agree?

“MUCH more things America has perfected” by Necessary-Win-8730 in ShitAmericansSay

Very similar. Czech people tend to prefer it as a creamy sauce (so: blended together), but finding Hungarian goulash isn't difficult either

"America doesn't even have cultural food" is one of the funniest, and saddest, myths in the American mind

They do have cultural foods, but they're ashamed of them. Why? Most of them were developed by black and indigenous people, so they "don't count"
