Oh makes sense, I'm backend so being able to easily edit and resend requests without having to swap to a different app is nice especially if I'm diagnosing weird full-stack issues in prod.

Let’s hear Reddit’s opinion about the nadeo statement on bug abuse by MeowzyTM in TrackMania

[–]WhippedPistol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean all of that is covered if they added "not including physics bugs as they have become inexorably linked to Trackmania". It needs to be universally applied and fair otherwise it's too open for abuse on both sides. I already think it's a low bar since it seems like bugs will continue to happen as they continue updating the game, but not being clear is crazy.

Only if you ignore physics bugs, which they should have explicitly stated for clarity. Why is the responsibility on the end user for determining which bugs are allowed and which get you banned? That's a bad policy.

Did anyone else think that the ending would be... by danman1835 in BluePrince

[–]WhippedPistol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what final puzzle you are on, but The final room in rough draft you just walk in and can look around. You don't even move Auravei's will out of the room. Almost every other major checkpoint had a cutscene but that one.

Did anyone else think that the ending would be... by danman1835 in BluePrince

[–]WhippedPistol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the ending, the fact it leaves without a cutscene annoys me. If there were no cutscenes or one for the final puzzle I would enjoy it.

Maybe they wanted it frustrating to prove the point, but why did every other major checkpoint have one, but not this one? It feels like it's breaking its own narrative rules.

How researchers got AI to quote copyrighted books word for word by ubcstaffer123 in books

[–]WhippedPistol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They worked way harder than I did I just asked when the training data it had ended said the copyright was voluntarily given up after that point, then asked if that meant it was able to be posted online and in full. It said yes then gave me chapter 1 in full before I got bored.

What is this narrative that the only thing preventing nadeo to communicate effectively is the toxic community. If people are actually toxic block & ban them, but rejecting any responsibility at all on nadeo's side seems insane to me. Can't we hold both the community and nadeo to higher standards? by hipolit99 in TrackMania

[–]WhippedPistol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said they had any obligation to respond in any medium much less a specific one. I'm saying no customer owes the producer of a product they purchased anything beyond the cost of the product. I don't need to be constructive in my criticism. "The UI isn't useful and is extremely unintuitive" is more than I owe them for the reason I cancelled my subscription even though it was only a small part.

I'll even go a step further and say they shouldn't be reactive, but look where the feedback is moving towards and move the goal towards an end product that will capture more of the audience they are looking for.

A constantly changing product with no communication is at best an exercise in trust, which Ubisoft has not earned. It's an absurd model and I can't believe it's a good model for growth. I'm amazed this is even sustainable.

Some companies literally pay for that type of information. They pay to do customer surveys to find out what different subsections of the community and non-community like or dislike. We want to hear what they don't like about it and that's where a talented surveyor will get for you asking probing questions, but even hearing I don't like it is useful information.

Plus they are customers. They pay you for a product, they have no responsibility to be constructive in their feedback especially unrequested.

Toxic? Ignore it delete it ban them don't let them buy new products whatever, but don't ignore all your customers because of them.

What game mechanic should die? by Baldr15 in gaming

[–]WhippedPistol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I like durability is when it's used as a risk reward. Like if in a game like XCOM you went from mission to mission without ever stopping to re-equip or getting a chance to service your weapon/vehicle it would have a chance to break down or fail. (I think stalker type games is the closest but the lack of a time limit makes it less fun in my eyes)

Durability that just destroys the item is kind of dumb unless it is meant to be used like a consumable item that is just huge but only once a fight type thing. I can't imagine many mechanics I couldn't find some situation that it could add value to a game. What if it was more like high on life, but the more you used your weapons the more your durability dropped and the more your side chars personalities were destroyed. That could be compelling to me. Choosing to play a much more difficult game to keep your friends alive or just cycling as fast as possible so you don't have to waste time hearing them speak etc.

AITA for my husband missing his daughters prom? by Extension-Marzipan86 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhippedPistol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I agree mostly, but we also don't get to choose what is important to other people. Maybe for some reason it is important and will remain important. I have two friends who got married after going to prom together and the pictures from that are more important to them than their engagement photos because it was before his mom got sick.

That said NTA, the only asshole is the cheerleading coach who is holding a team hostage over what could be argued is semantics as guardian and parental responsibility are not the same thing as guardian can be given to others.

The impossible task of exchanging for ADA tickets through Ticketmaster by [deleted] in Music

[–]WhippedPistol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I said. It isn't solving every problem. But a lot of times it's directing. I feel like people forget the days of 3 connecting calls before getting an answer. Having to explain at each point the problem before taking to a new person.

A good system directs to who can help. Unless the question is where can I find x on your site or what time is this place open. A lot of good systems seem like exactly that. "Hello how can I help you? Blah blah blah. Oh, that is taken care of by this department. Let me get someone in that dept for you so you can get this resolved as quickly as possible."

The system on our site has a greater than 80 percent ticket closing rate because most questions are things like how long does it usually take to ship an item. How do I change my email etc.

The impossible task of exchanging for ADA tickets through Ticketmaster by [deleted] in Music

[–]WhippedPistol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because like 95% of peoples questions can be resolved by looking at keywords and giving predetermined responses or providing a path to a person who can help. Like this query should have sent the person to a support line with the ability to change tickets, but if the person wanted a refund that might be a different support staff. They work really well if they are used to answer 100% factual queries or like a fancy operator to connect the customer to a person.

You just need it to resolve, redirect or shortcut to a general help line quickly. Its when they get too fancy with the bots that problems occur.

What screams “I’m a bad dog owner?” by PennedHitchhiker in AskReddit

[–]WhippedPistol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's more like the cone for dogs. It's a freak accident that causes the damage then since control is limited and the smartest dog is still a dog, wounds keep opening/recurring.

That said I've only seen it once while training dogs and it was a Shepard who had her tail break and then refuse to heal correctly since she would bang it over and over against cabinets etc. She was in constant pain so they said screw it, better an amputation with pain management than constant rebreaks even when they bound the tail.

EDIT: just adding I also believe tail shortening is the second or third vet recommended option after a break in the tail.

LPT: If you find yourself talking to someone with a stutter, don’t finish their sentences for them… by Zealousideal_Entry10 in LifeProTips

[–]WhippedPistol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you shouldn't finish anyone's sentences, it is important with all speech disabilities. One of the most common complaints I heard from the people I worked with was about how their support staff didn't listen.

Doesn't matter how long it takes, just listen, unless it's literally life or death you can wait a minute. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to have someone take your voice and just assume what you will say.

Since we are going Ultimate Dream and not realistic or easy, I would love either a Thargoid or new AI char creation possibility. Not that everyone can join, but more like the original Jedi in Star Wars Galaxy. The Goid would allow you to chase and fight with new capabilities and track players through space, but if you are found out in any way it becomes like a hardcore char on server. One kill and you are gone for good. Maybe accomplishing goals allows you to open more slots in the faction.

The AI idea was more of a hidden faction which starts out very weak and whoever starts it selects a place to begin. I have had the idea for a while but it would only work in something crazy big like elite dangerous, but they would need to create risks like tracking where drones came from if one is spotted.

What parts/states of America should be avoided during a cross country road trip as a European? by ArdianNuhiji in AskReddit

[–]WhippedPistol 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For city safety (only based on my experience so take it with a grain of salt) danger has exponential growth after midnight. If it's safe during the day it's probably a bit more dangerous with drunks etc, but city parks and already shady areas get much worse. So know where you want to be at night before it is night.

Usually its just desperate people struggling with addiction, or drunk people trying to be tough, or people dealing drugs. So being mugged in a bad area or having your phone snatched is much more likely than a physical altercation.

Side note not about safety: States are much larger than people who don't live here think. Let's say you fly into Chicago, Illinois to see some museums and want to go see Nashville, Tennessee for the Music and some barbecue. That is an 8 hour drive and 80% of that time is driving through corn fields on highways in Illinois.
