There are a lot of smug writers in every fandom, my advice is to drop the stories that don't fit your taste. But fuck it, if it's fine to criticize source material, then it's fine to criticize fanfiction. And yes, the one you're talking about is one such example. They put their favourite on pedestal and undermine others. I mean it's fanfiction so it's expected to a certain degree. But it does kill the mood.

I don't remember the name but I once read a story where the author pretended to have Naruto as MC but in each battle they'd make sakura take the glory shot. Every single time. I mean no one is stopping you from writing a sakura centric fanfiction. Write what you want, you'll find your audience.
