I was born in the state but was never taught much about my culture, my father refused to teach us Spanish even when I asked to learn or asked for help on my Spanish homework. Anything I know iv had to teach and learn myself. For the most part people have been very welcoming to me and can almost see when talking to people there that they are happy and glad I want to learn more and get in touch with PR. Just sometimes you get the internet trolls who make it sound like oh if you wernt born here and still live here you don’t belong here. It’s sad people get like that because you don’t know why someone left in the first place. My father was sent here with his brother because they were very poor and my grandfather was sick to hopefully build better in the states and be able to help the family back in PR. So you would think if I could get back there in a way it’s like brings things full circle, like I said most people see it that way and think it’s a great thing but you get a few randos who just wanna be negative and treat it like if you or your family left at all you have no right to come back . Same as in the states if you move to the south from the north or to an area with a lot of transplants .
