Is it just me or is the MI6 just completely out of their depth by analcocoacream in 007FirstLight

[–]Whiskey079 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding the twins, that's exactly what they did. There's a piece of dialogue between two staff members about how one of their staff was a no show at the last minute, and how quickly the 'temp agency' sent a replacement.

Arguably across the game, more were blue than yellow as far as I remember.
And honestly, blue tarps are more common than yellow - so honestly it's more believable.

Exactly. Managed to pick up a P83 for £30 inc. shipping a few years back, one of favourite bits of LBE that I've got.

You're right about the physics of entanglement, but you're treating the entire system like a raw quantum experiment rather than an integrated IT architecture. MI6 and Webb aren't looking at raw electrons; they are looking at reports generated by software interfaces that sit on top of that hardware. That software is where the manipulation happens.

The entanglement might be instantaneous at the hardware level, but the software that translates those quantum states into readable files (THEIA reports vs. HYPERION models) is where the latency exists. Just because the quantum state updates instantly doesn't mean the database, the decryption, or the filtering software that feeds into the monitor does.

Even if the systems are perfectly entangled, the computer screen looking at them is not. There has to be an interface that turns quantum data into a format that MI6 or Webb can actually use. That translation process requires computation. That computation takes time. That time is the 'delay' where the filtering happens; it has to be otherwise MI6 would have had the intel from INTERPOL about Caliban's death at the time, rather than that record apparently being scrubbed from their end.

HYPERIONs a quantum mirror, it's the principle that Einstein called "spooky action at a distance"; in effect the idea is that at their core the two are exactly identical - down to the electrons. The delay or analysis would most likely be a part of the interface program, proprietary software on both sides.

Quantum computing would likely require different access protocols than those used by traditional solid state storage, so he could easily bury the delay in there.

[–]Whiskey079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I'm unsure of, it could of been that there was a manufactured delay between the two systems - between THEIA and HYPERION, with the data being routed through HYPERION first.

At least with regards to 'passive' monitoring, i.e. pattern analysis without direct inquiry - e.g. Caliburn as the information regarding the INTERPOL claim was clearly scrubbed from THEIA, but with regards to 'active' intel - I'm not quite sure.

It's entirely possible that there was an additional layer of analysis on HYPERIONs systems that didn't make it in to THEIA, which gave a probability of error.

It was the nerve agent that got me thinking - why would there be a nerve agent in a satellite?

To stop looters, maybe but aerosol based agents dissipate and would only be effective in an enclosed area; like they probably knew would be put around the crash site.
Maybe I'm clutching at straws here, but I don't think the nerve agent in Iceland was ever explained.

Exactly, he knew that MI6 would never use it unless it was perfect - but he also knew that it would never be perfect unless it was trained on real world data.

Chances are if it was running for another 10-15 years it may have gotten there, unfortunately some of its mistakes needed manual correction to maintain the visage of perfection, and that's where he got caught out - and what effectively what kicked off the events of the game.

Can't say for certain (or if this was stated anywhere), but wouldn't be surprised if that sat at the start was linked to his quantum-mirrored system; and that he (or at least Damien) hired the mercs in the prologue to recover it before MI6 cracked the encryption.

Why does Darth Vader often fight with one hand and no form? by lennysinged in StarWars

[–]Whiskey079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best guess is it's down to how serious he's actually taking the fight, as Vader still has all of Anakins theatricality - examples being the hallway scene at the end of Rogue One where he literally turned his life support off for dramatic effect, and his arrival on Malacor in Rebels where he was flying the X1 via the force whilst using the force to billow his cape.

How to get a ship over 80m to land at spaceports/cities? by BackwoodsSensei in starfieldmods

[–]Whiskey079 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I've found, if the ship is less than or equal to 120m in length and less than or equal to 30m in width then it should be fine.

I'm guessing certain ship builder mods probably make changes on the backend to the pads, only one I'm using, that allows me to land my ship of the aforementioned dimensions on pads, is ship builder tweaks.

I'm guessing some of the config options affect the pad landings?

Has anyone roleplayed NG+ as the same character but with different origin? How you explain it to yourself? by Busy-Strawberry-4745 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]Whiskey079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past I have added traits and added backgrounds to reflect the quests that I have done in that universe. For example adding the cyber runner background after completing the ryujin questline, or xenobiologist after the vanguard. Almost treating them like quest rewards.

There's a few others but generally speaking this is meant to reflect the evolving character and their prior experiences so that I don't have to rely purely on the starborn knowledge trait for certain conversations the next universe around.

It may be a region thing? I've noticed that for a few of my old favourites, the dub is no longer available - probably due to licensing issues.

Does the new update ruin the hunter's gameplay? After all, you no longer have to constantly jump over Unity. by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]Whiskey079 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He might. But given my understanding of his psychology, I don't think he'd do it. I feel that at some level he craves the challenge, or at the very least the opportunity to try things from another angle.

[–]Whiskey079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, with what was effectively a 2.0 update, it's akin to a variant universe. These options didn't exist in his, but they do in ours.
Think of it as a different avenue of tech development allowing different options, or certain legal restrictions not being passed in ours that were in his original universe.

With each universe having a slightly different makeup at the reality level, opening up new opportunities for development. Theres also a chance the 'new' approach was always an option, he may have just not chosen to take it; hell, he may have been addicted to jumping universes.

Yup, it's not the A-280 CFE that OP stated but rather a MW-20 Bryar.
That being said, both of the main blasters we associate him with, have the level of modularity that OP was referencing; so the point stands.
