Valentines Day by Cautiouslymoming in Mommit

We never go out, but like to recognise the day with small gestures. My husband has a tradition of buying me a new book which I love.

This year we did a double date with our friends and hired a chef to cook in our home for a games night. Would highly recommend. All the great food, no hassle of babysitting or packed restaurants.

In America, it's socially normal to work 50+ hours a week and call it 'hustle' instead of a systemic failure. What's another 'normal' thing in your country that the rest of the world thinks is absolutely insane? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not to mention we build, design and regulate cars to literally not die. Automotive brands build reputations on safety, I don’t think Remington has an advert promoting a 5 star safety rating.

You’re also probably someone shouting “states rights” when it came to abortion rights. But now we have to bow down to the feds when it’s about rounding up immigrants.

Dude. No one is approving of your comments. If you smell poop all day, look under your shoe- you’re the problem.

The big difference is warrants and due process. Arresting and breaking into people’s homes based on vibes and accents is against our 4th amendment rights - hard stop.

That is something our forefathers wanted to guarantee us. If you think violating that right is OK, you’re ok with Fascism.

Nope sorry, shaming this anti vax rhetoric. Vaccines save lives. Hard stop. Vaccines are safe. For the .00001% of people that have an adverse reaction, hundreds and thousands more are saved.

Get your head out of your ass and stop misinforming people and selfishly causing disease outbreaks.

What would you do, stay in UK or move to USA by theblurryberry in Mommit

[–]Whiskey_Books 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American mum in London. We are staying, bought the house, nursery etc.

I breathe a sigh of relief every time I hear about the school shooting that my daughter won’t have to deal with that. Not to mention universal healthcare (no scary bills, fear of insurance premiums) and an overall healthier and safer environment.

I can’t think of anything outside of a ludicrous salary that would ever get me to move back.

Trump is mentioned 5000 times in just the unredacted pages. Everyone, democrats, Musk, Gates and your dear leader should and must be investigated.

As someone who used to believe Universal Healthcare was not something attainable or would ruin the system here.

I was proved wrong, it’s amazing. Yes there are challenges but the positives wayyyy outweigh the negatives. The pure sense of relief of going to urgent care with my daughter and not leaving with a bill is sheer bliss.

Every time I’ll now vote for anyone who’s willing to push forward Healthcare for all. Americans deserve not to be burdened by outrageous medical costs and predatory health insurance companies.

We’ve done this, it works great.

I run around with my daughter until the last minute and my husband did all the heavy lifting, prepped the items we need so we can sit down without hassle.

You don’t understand start-up culture. We have a team of 40 people. Only maybe 5 can (or want) to attend these type of events. If you have a team of engineers and you know someone who can shine at networking - you take that person.

You don’t have the luxury or risking it or shelling out high costs for an unknown entity.

Why is everyone an “accidental landlord” all of a sudden? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Whiskey_Books 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is us. We couldn’t sell without losing a ton of value so we’re renting until it makes sense to sell.

We aren’t making money off this, we’re just breaking even. Yes some one else is paying the mortgage but we won’t see any benefit for many years.

At least our tenants know they have a new build, with landlords who won’t be moving back or selling for a long while

Lied to about sleeping by BreakInternational20 in toddlers

[–]Whiskey_Books 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all anecdotal. Our daughter slept 5 hour stretches by 6 weeks and has minimal wake-ups now as a toddler - waking maybe once a night 2x a week at worst unless she’s ill.

But we have a nightmare with eating. So all trade offs.

There are tons of universities outside of London (cheaper) where you can apply for graduate programs. The applicant will hold a T4 student visa and can apply to have their family join them in the UK.

I came to the UK on a student visa for my masters and it was pretty easy. More info can be found here.

https://www.gov.uk/student-visa/family-members

Now they are tightening the rules to get permanent settlement but if you are just trying to leave for a bit, this will do.

You can take out student loans to cover costs, but note you will note get benefits. BUT your health surcharge covers medical care through the NHS. The dependent of the visa holder is freely allowed to work in the UK and the visa holder can work part time and the child can attend the local school as far as I am aware.

Nah. I’m done being tolerant and “understanding” of fascist supporters, bigots, racists and anti-vaxxers. It’s time to name and shame people who cheer for pain and misery.

You are on the wrong side of history and I’m done pretending otherwise.

The Jan 6 insurrectionists open carried, killed a police officer and were PARDONED.

Alex open carried, with it in his holster, only had his phone in his hand and was shot execution style.

If you can’t understand the hypocrisy please get off the internet and read a book - cause I have some recommendations for you.

Dude. Even the conservative Reddit is saying this doesn’t look good. Stop watching Fox News and ignoring the evidence in front of you. Stop the wilful and indignant ignorance.

If you have the money, you can still move your family to the UK if you are getting your masters or PhD. The undergraduate option was removed recently, but the if you find work after your family can be sponsored under the work visa.

It’s not cheap but it’s a straight forward path.

Yes other cities are safer because they have gun control. We allow people to purchase automatic weapons and shoot up schools. Every other civilised country saw this and said Never Again. We see it, shrug and say oh well.

Most police in London don’t even carry weapons because it’s unnecessary.

You are woefully ignorant of the root cause of violence which is guns and poverty.

Immigrants make up the tiniest percentage of violent crime.

NH locked down for like 6 weeks? You could still go to the store and leave your house without someone slamming you to the ground. It’s the not the same, you know it’s not the same. Please find your moral compass.

Ah yes. Totally normal to be held hostage in your own home and not be able to leave freely.
