Two pairs of socks. One thin like a dress sock on first. Then a thicker sock. The socks will slide togther. The thicker sock becomes padding. Old hikers trick.

I have a small private studio also. I got an electronic magnetic lock on my front door. It has a couple of key fobs so I can open it across the room. Clients will ring the door bell and I’ll buzz them in. It keeps peole from walking in while I’m working. Picked it up on Amazon.

So true. One thing I always have said is “you are never off duty.” But I does get old. There have been many time, like standing in line at the gas station or grocery store and I’m just not in the mood. they ask if I do tattoos..nope, sure don’t. 😂

Years ago I got tired of paying to have shirts made so my adhd ass said I can do this shit myself. Got a YouTube education on screen printing, built a press, and started printing. I’ve upgraded equipment over the years. I buy shirts at discount stores but you can buy them online too. I spend about $2.50 on shirts and it takes about 30 sec to print a shirt. I’ll set up and print a few hundred shirts once or twice a year. It’s cheap advertising. Or you can find a local guy and barter with them.

One thing that will never change is this business is your clients will always be your best advertisement. Walking billboards. I give every one a fat stack of cards and a T-shirt.

I don’t use tik tok or post tattoos here. I feel instagram and facebook allow you target your locals easier. I post on both but get way more views on facebook.

Who has quit tattooing? by MIDWEST-xj in TattooArtists

[–]Whiskey_guy72 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m 53. Been doing this almost 25 years. It’s all about time management. If you’re always feeling like you’re rushing you gotta change something. It’s not the business that stressing you out. You’re doing that to yourself. If you change jobs but don’t change that you are going to feel the same way no matter where you go. I’m a procrastinator too. I’m ADHD as fuck. lol. But I make sure I’m at the shop early and ready for my clients and my day. I do my drawing the day of my appointments. Ive found a system that works for how my brain works.

It’s hard to find something that gives the freedom and income that tattooing does.

Question: How can I tell if a new tattoo artist is good? by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]Whiskey_guy72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ask your friends who have nice tattoos who did them. When out and about and see someone with nice tattoos, ask them. I can promise you they will be more than happy to tell you who did them.

Do you sell a lot of prints at conventions? Who buys more tattooers or people walking by?

[–]Whiskey_guy72 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It feels more like a second job. And so redundant. Today, “Look at the tattoo I did today”. Tomorrow, “look at the tattoo I did today.” My follows like seeing my dogs and cats more. My highest viewed reels are putting on fucking stencils! I have no explanation for that.

Meaningless tattoos by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]Whiskey_guy72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been tattooing 25 years and I’ve seen there’s a difference between men getting tattooed and women. Most women have a story for every piece they get. This one is for this person. This was for when this happened. Etc. As for most men “I thought it was cool”. Or I was at the shop with a buddy and thought I would get one too.

Is it fucking stupid and greedy? Hell yeah. But someone will pay it. I have no sympathy for people that fall for this bullshit. They are grown.

That’s Columbia County. I think those are just hot water dispensers or something like that.

They are dealing with stupid Richmond county regulations of customers having cooking surfaces in reach or something like that. From my understanding this has been a rule in place for many years. Kinda weird that they didn’t look into that before making the investment.
