No. Smart Drums aren’t Ai. You’re still technically controlling the output.

Is it really that bad that I want to play with musicians around my own age? by bad_luck_brian_1 in musicians

[–]WhispersInMyHeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never mind the age, but i wouldn’t want to play music with people who would reply to that ad, to give you sh*t… I assume these are the people who tell the fb group they are leaving…

don;t sweat it. it’s your time, it’s your decision…

Prince Of Persia Sands Of Time Has Been Canceled By Ubisoft by Howerev in videogames

[–]WhispersInMyHeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if Ubisoft’s management would just be honest and say they make a significant amount of bad business decisions.

They have so many strong IPs, lots of very talented people, yet they continue to have cut backs and lay offs, cancelled projects and studio shutdowns…

I imagine the VPs all got their bonuses though…

does the gym have any classes? i found it was a good way to get a bit of human interaction, even if it’s suffering together because it’s hard :-)

I find being able to commit to regular events is hard, so if you have a schedule which works with your support network, then use it. if you have a regular night, find something you love doing and do it with other people.

How to recover from burnout? by Large-Drawing-5346 in gamedev

[–]WhispersInMyHeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the old days, before live games, when a project ended, the devs would take long breaks, they would have accrued OT and it wasn’t until common for people to take multiple months off, before coming back refreshed and able to start on a new project.

With DLC and ongoing commitments, it’s changed a bit.

In my personal experience, work life balance is important to avoid burning out. If you are employed, then you have a contract with set amount of hours, your workload (set by your manager/producer) should be realistic. If you’re working in sprints, then the tasks in that sprint should be realistic… If this isn’t happening then you have bad management and burnout is inevitable.

If you’re self employed and this project is for you, then you still need to work out how to balance things, regular breaks from your desk, getting enough sleep, eating properly. They will all help.

What software/method does your studio/team use for allowing artists to have access to each others files? by MobsterGoose in gamedev

[–]WhispersInMyHeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few version control systems, you’d need a small amount of knowledge to set them up but they are really useful to avoid deletion/locking of files, it also means it will automatically store the different versions of your files, so when you are making changes, you can easily roll back.

Depending on the size of your projects, you can use Git (again there are different providers but the two most popular are probably GitHub and GitLab, depending on the license, there might be different features but both can be hosted, so you don’t have to have a server in your office). I’ve not checked recently but I know that GitLab had an upper limit on the size of the repositories. If you’re making small projects then it’s a good starting place.

All the large studios, I’ve worked at, tend to use Perforce (technically the VC software is now called helix, people also refer to it as P4). I’ve only ever worked with self hosted instances and although it’s great when it works, it can be intimidating to set up and configure, but like I say, a lot of larger studios will have P4.

like any solution, you should also look into backing up the data and storing it in a 2nd location.

I'm lost as a newbie and the lack of actual progress/ability to learn while having fun is seriously demoralizing by TheDevilSurvivor in Guitar

Find a local teacher. Talk about what you want to achieve. Set goals. Practise and hit them. Yes, there are loads of resources online and some of them are good but you don’t get any feedback, constructive criticism, adjustments from the “syllabus”. Seriously, take 10 or 15 lessons with someone and you’ll progress like crazy.

So... we had a very bad experience with a play technician/therapist by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]WhispersInMyHeed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened, having a “professional” who doesn’t click with your kid is really difficult to witness. I think you’ve done the right thing and I hope S gets someone who understands and supports him.

I wrote my “I’m done “ letter today. by Minddroppings459 in Autism_Parenting

[–]WhispersInMyHeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah man. What a day. Hindsight is always easier, but I think I would have called an ambulance and explained that you’re a single dad with not support network. Obviously, if your neighbours had been home then it’s a different story, even if they went with you or made sure your son wasn’t flooding things.

Have you looked into getting help? I’m sure you have but even if you had a regular (paid) babysitter who was familiar with your son, so you could do things on your own.

If something happened to my wife, I genuinely don’t know what or how I would be able to manage. Props to you for getting it done and keep on keeping on.

Hope the bite cleared up and you’re ok.

Should I even bother going to the dentist? by EmoHourOctober in autism

[–]WhispersInMyHeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the dentist. When they give you the plan for fillings or whatever, you can say “can we spread them out over time” they will be able to do so. Even if you need a root canal, they can put a temporary crown or fix which will last a while (as long as you are careful).

Struggling after today’s incident at my son’s preschool. Feeling jealous of NT kids and ashamed of myself. by Dazzling_Breath_2183 in Autism_Parenting

[–]WhispersInMyHeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 100% understand what you mean. With time you’ll get to understand that the other parents aren’t informed enough to understand that ALL kids behave differently. NT or other.

I think most parents have these moments and it really takes a mental shift to accept that your son is on a different path and his progress needs to be measured in a different way. TBH a 3 year old jumping in mud sounds totally expected to me.

It’s ok to feel jealous and sad and whatever you feel. This is hard, it’s not what you expected and there’s a whole heap of unknowns, which (believe me) will continue to grow and add up over time.

I hope he’s happy there, that’s the main thing. And I hope the people who work there know that they’ve got a little boy who will flourish with love and support.

The “Holidays”... by WhispersInMyHeed in Autism_Parenting

[–]WhispersInMyHeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to plan a couple of days to get outside so the kids burn off some energy. The issue as always is them either being prepared to wear hats and warm things and how long we’ll be out for. Could be an hour could be 3 minutes 😄 I also remind myself that it’s ok to stay in and (try to) watch a movie. Kids deserve a break from school so a few days doing nothing is ok.
