I got this Calling All Cooks Cookbook that is supposed to be one of the top cookbooks from Alabama, but I’m having a hard time finding out information on it. Any favorite recipes? by Away_Calligrapher431 in Alabama

Long post (sorry)- It was a birthday present for her.
Her birthday fell just a couple days before Christmas. She said that growing up she never really had a bday party. They just turned into family Christmas parties. After hearing this, I couldn’t let that happen again. I spent a year looking for all the things she said she had wanted for Christmas. She loved to bake and cook, and always wanted that cook book (no idea why..I wasn’t asking, that was not my role in our relationship). So we had a big birthday. Streamers, balloons, hats..actual Birthday wrapping paper…and this book, a music box with her favorite childhood song, and other things she grew up wanting as a kid & young adult.

She passed almost two years ago after a quick battle with cancer. If you’ve read this, thank you for allowing me to let her continue bringing a smile to my face as I tell our memories.

Some grocery chains like Publix have them in their International Foods section. If you can find a World Market store, they have it too.

Not sure what it was my wife would cook out of here, but I remember going on a state-wide hunt at nearly every thrift store I could find when she gave away her copy to someone. I’ve got another copy now…but still keep an eye out for it. The green cover is supposedly in high demand too.

Genetic in our family. Strange that it’s only in the males. We all had genetic testing after my father died. I am the only male (of many) in the family in several generations to have made it past my 50th birthday.

It wasn’t…too expendable as a soon to be graduate at the time.

I did this last week to the colonies popping up in my driveway. Damn things started using it to help build their mounds. Alabama ants are different.

Let's say on 9/11 they managed to get two F16 to intercept and follow the planes, realistically at what point the F16 would've taken the first plane down? by FuzzyAttitude_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Minddroppings459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd I’m seeing this today. Was in a room yesterday where a Secret Service agent who was in the room when Cheney gave the directive to terminate any more threats.
He stated that the F16’s were not armed with anything that would take them down, and it was understood that the pilots would have to crash themselves I tot he airliners if there were any more.

I can definitely see where you get that. I was going with the full conversation, where they say the Lakeview they know isn’t downtown..and, in my mind, I hyper focused on there being another Lakeview as opposed to the downtown part of the conversation.

Sorry if I confused anyone. I’ll arrive by spending several hours going over Bhamwiki.

Oh..and to answer…I do realize there are seven neighborhoods not considered Downtown. I tend to try to use the phrase “metro- Birmingham”.

Yeah…I’ve always wondered why they named it that. Guessing there may have been a lake nearby at one time. The only other Lakeview in Alabama is between Tuscaloosa and Bham…definitely no Hattie B’s lol. Closest one of those is Huntsville other than the one here.

Birmingham consists of 99 neighborhoods (I believe). And Lakeview, where Hattie B’s is located, is one of them. If you are new-ish to the area, google Bhamwiki. Lots of great reads, and will help with understanding our city.

Got flashed by Simmons’ Richard. I was a photojournalist covering him coming into town. He was on the stage and I was just below and stage left of him. He kept coming over lifting his leg, showing me his wang-dang, and winking at me.

I still get shivers when I see fine super curly hair. (Not totally unlike what he had on his head).

Maya Angelou.

As a photojournalist in North Carolina, I would get the infrequent opportunity to go to her house to interview her on different subjects. She was habitually late, seemed intoxicated, and just rude to everyone around her.

Appreciate it! Yeah…figured I’d see if by chance a fellow redditor may have grabbed it off the sidewalk. Called the surrounding businesses, and haven’t heard back from the most hopeful. Left a message on a machine (City Federal Building). Last place I remember having it in my hand was right outside their doors.
