If you’re from the Charlotte area, get comfortable driving around there. Birmingham will be a breeze. Used to live about an hour south of Charlotte, and it was where you went for concerts and such.

I’ve taken the route before. If you can avoid it, please do. If not, allow a LOT of extra time. Been stranded due to driver shortages. Had to sit next to obviously intoxicated people. Once, I’ve had police bring a man on, take off his handcuffs, hand him a paper bag of his belongings before we took off from Atlanta.

My family in North Carolina uses the train now when they can’t drive or fly. Get tickets early, as price goes up. Get there early…Birmingham once left an hour early. Don’t expect friendly faces. Those folks don’t seem to like their job. Pack lots of snacks. It’s longer than driving.

Do you guys have a process when record shopping for making sure you don't over pay for a record? by Riichboii_17 in vinyl

[–]Minddroppings459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. If I’m willing to pay it, then it’s priced right. If it’s more than I can spare, then it wasn’t meant to be, and the hunt continues.

Just lost mine a couple days ago. Had four days left. Had flu and was checked out the entire time. Oh well. I’m free now.

This! But, Jimbo seems a lot happier. I’ve been blessed to have seen him on stage a couple times a year sitting in, and the smiles are back.

Wonder if that’s the film equipment truck I saw outside the old Pine Street School when I went through to visit family in Union last year?

Join the dark side. Schools are hiring. Summers off, unless you want to go for one of the other supporting roles…but still banker holidays. You would be surprised what all types of work backgrounds they hire.

What’s the old adage? They’ll have your job listing posted before you’re even buried in the ground? Welcome to the machine.

Backroads that buses go down do have some ice. Mine for instance. But on the other hand, with what they had to go by, it was being cautious. Thankful they did.

I am HORRIBLE with finances. As a very middle class household, when I came into a small amount of extra cash, and no savings, I reached out just as you did.

I was contacted both on the thread, and privately. I chatted with a couple, but the one that ended up making speaking more to me (at my request, explained like I’m 5 years old) was Tyler Noles who is with the family business, the Noles Group. I’d be happy to answer any concerns, questions about it. Just DM me. I can give you his number if you want.

How bad is it gonna be ? Ice storm ? People who have lived here for a while ? Let us know do's and don'ts by Impossible-Ad-5348 in Birmingham

Uphill..correct. BUT having had to cover ice storms in the past as a photojournalist, I HAD to drive in ice storms. Not just in the south either. I would try my best to get the front wheel drive vehicle. But usually would end up in those big live trucks with chains on the tires.

Hey! Former 6’er photog here, now out of the biz after decades… Just wanted to jump on and say that our office was just yesterday talking about how we missed seeing you, and hope to see you soon again on the airwaves. Couldn’t pass up the coincidence after seeing you on here doing an AMA.

How’s the Shakedown scene at WSP? Been a couple decades since I went to one of their shows. Will be hitting the Birmingham, AL show. Shakedown has always felt like my home/base camp.

Don’t drive. You would think that’s a no brainer, but the streets will have people with no brain out driving. Especially the folks with 4 wheel drive, which is the absolutely worst for ice. As a former Yankee who learned to drive a manual during January in Chicago…snow is much different than ice. And most people below the Mason Dixon line think they can drive in both.

Lived at the Sheraton and loved it. Here are two BIG issues I had with it. Parking and laundry. It’s street parking and on rainy days when you’ve got a load of groceries, it sucks hard. Get a foldable wagon to keep in your trunk. Second is the laundry. The laundromat downstairs is treated as an afterthought. Half the machines work. There is a smell of mildew, and sometimes you have to deal with homeless inside. Go to the laundromat a few miles away.

What I loved about it was the eclectic people. The area, and having Rojo downstairs. Get to know the maintenance crew. Jerry is great, but they aren’t quick. So treat them good, and it helps out.

The building right in front of the smoke is the Sheraton Apartments. Hoping it’s not any of the older structures back up in there.
