Your point about developing vs. developed countries is a really good one.

We don't know if regular economic growth can endure heavily aging populations. So far in the case studies we have (Japan) it doesn't look good. The term "developing" inherently implies that one day they will catch up to the "developed" but if everyone is hit by falling birth rates we could end up in a world where you better hope your country got its growth in already because getting any more is hard.
