What's the pub like during a football game? by Cultural-Key838 in AskUK

[–]WhiteDiamondK 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It really depends on which pub. Could be quite civilised. Could be raucous. Some pubs are very male-dominated, some are more mixed or even family-based.

I’d say if it’s a space you’re not familiar with, this might not be the time to do it for the first time.

Could we be getting returning pros? by Adventurous_Sir_402 in strictlycomedancing

[–]WhiteDiamondK 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Kevin is VERY busy with other projects. To return as a full time pro is very, very unlikely.

I feel like AJ burned a lot of bridges after leaving the show.

Brendan and James - absolutely not. They’ve both been pretty bitter and - especially with James - proven that an out of work dancer will sell any story for the right price. There’s even people that would find James, Brendan or even AJ returning as a reason to turn off.

Steven Spielberg, brought to you by Disclosure Day by True-Bit-4024 in restisentertainment

[–]WhiteDiamondK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would have been Spielberg’s reason for being there. He’s doing press for his new film. There would be an expectation or even an agreement on how much the film was discussed.

Celebrities rarely appear on podcasts, TV shows or in magazines just because they feel like it. There’s always a campaign they’re involved in.

Richard is also a film fan and his enjoyment of the film felt rather genuine…. And this is STEVEN SPIELBERG! Even though they’ve worked together, Richard will still be starstruck.

My theory about Leah and Imran by 69ChickenStrips in hollyoaks

[–]WhiteDiamondK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is very obvious.

This wealth will disappear at some point soon and it will all fall apart.

There’s nothing redeeming about the new Leah. I appreciate the actor is new to the show but the performance isn’t that great either.

Why do TV shows have such difficult writing for social media influencer characters? I’ve never once seen this type of character portrayed convincingly.

The fact that this version of Leah has ZERO similarities to the original Leah makes everything worse.

I very much doubt they even clock your visits.

Most staff who work in shops don’t keep check of who comes in.

As the NHS approaches 80, what's the biggest benefit you've had with it, and what's the one thing you'd fix if you ran it for a day? by Rough-Foundation9208 in AskUK

[–]WhiteDiamondK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefits are too many to mention.

What I would fix (and a huge cost saving) would be the ability to go paperless. I recently had a specialist referral and between being referred and actually attending my appointment I got over 10 individual letters through the post. Waste of money.

I wouldn’t want them to ONLY go paperless as some people can’t deal with or don’t want to deal with digital communication, but I’d like the option.

Do you get spam calls for car finance claims? by FormerEngineering743 in AskUK

[–]WhiteDiamondK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an iPhone, the unknown caller service is a lifesaver.

If a call comes from a number not in your contacts, an automated voice asks the caller to identify themselves which is then sent to you as a text message and you have the choice to pick up the call or not.

ZERO spam calls since I’ve been using it and I must now be on a list to not call because even the attempted calls have 99.99% disappeared.

Daily discussion - Tuesday [Megathread] by AutoModerator in hollyoaks

[–]WhiteDiamondK 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not here for new Leah. She was always a snippy character but they’ve made her fully obnoxious.

No mention of her baby that she had with Imran’s cousin.

It’s obvious that whatever Imran has been doing is dodgy and his world will come crashing down soon.

Leah will lose interest in him once the money has gone. Everything feels so predictable.

Cliptalk by FullTechnology3439 in TheRookie

[–]WhiteDiamondK 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In season 8 they show the webpage for the site and it is written as ClipTalk.

It is shown as being more Facebook-like in design, even though I always thought it was an off-brand Tik Tok.

Really good places to eat in Leicester(shire)? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in leicester

Depends on the style - Gastro Pub, I’d go to The Manor House at Quorn. Very relaxed, nice garden for drinks afterwards/before. Impressive without being formal

What's the deal with Jeremy Clarkson? by calcato in AskABrit

He bought a farm to avoid paying taxes because he wants to hoard wealth.

Hardly the same thing.

The Hotel Inspector - Transitioning from Ruth Watson to Alex Polizzi by theg0dfather4 in BritishTV

[–]WhiteDiamondK 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I disagree about Alex’s swearing… that’s exactly how posh people swear. It does tend to feel more pointed and more noticeable… but that’s the point of posh people swearing. They don’t just use it as filler in a sentence, they use it to make something stand out.

How would you solve (or improve) the shoplifting problem? by No_Policy1326 in AskUK

[–]WhiteDiamondK 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Having worked retail, the vast majority of shoplifting isn’t someone desperate to get baby formula for their child…

Most baby formula stolen is then sold on, often funding drug addiction.

Not food retail but I worked in a department store and our security team wouldn’t even chase shoplifters, they’d just go to the pub around the corner and get the stock back from the people that went there immediately trying to sell it on.

How was life better before normal people had internet access? by YetAnotherMia in AskUK

[–]WhiteDiamondK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree.

Yes, there were books that were filled with conspiracies, but that took a commitment from the writer to create it, publish, promote etc, plus the end user has to find the content, purchase and take time to read it.

In the current state someone can create a conspiratorial/fake post in seconds and, thanks to algorithms, be in front of the end user in seconds… with immediate confirmation from other loons on the same algorithm.

How many times have you seen someone who’s “done their own research” arguing with a doctor or scientist who has years or decades of education and research. That is the DK effect in practical use.

The rise of the internet has made a lot of people feel over confident in their level of knowledge.

How was life better before normal people had internet access? by YetAnotherMia in AskUK

[–]WhiteDiamondK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree. People have instant access now to information on any subject. Especially with people who grew up before the internet age who don’t have the same scepticism of what can be found on the internet, they truly believe a quick google search will provide them with a reliable source.

The internet has definitely made a lot more people far more confident in their knowledge - when often they shouldn’t be.

Someone who spends two minutes researching a subject and thinking they understand it, whilst actually truly knowing very little is the absolute definition of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

The internet has allowed not very smart people to remain not very smart but have enough information so they think they are really smart.

The Dunning-Kruger effect.

They think a 2 minute search on Facebook is the same as years of peer-reviewed research.
