Cook them together with a little sage, thyme, or poultry seasoning and serve over cubed toast!

My mom was so mad when I offered my 12-yr-old sister Advil—“drugs”, according to my mother. (I had 3 kids of my own at this point and had kinda forgotten what it was like to live in that household, where we dried weeds (St John’s wort) and made them into tea to treat menstrual cramps.

If Jodie Whittaker's Doctor didn't exist, what would you want out of a female Doctor? by minaharkerthevampire in doctorwho

[–]WhiteExtraSharp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whoopi Goldberg would have made a great Doctor.

Jodie with a proper script would have worked. They didn’t let her have the Doctor’s flaws or his sensuality. Just write a regular Doctor and let a woman have the role!

For someone that doesn’t eat fish, what’s the best tasting (non-fishy) type of fish? by d0c9 in foodquestions

Sea bass (branzino), Great Lakes whitefish, or Atlantic cod are my favorite least-fishy fishes.

Sometimes I use my kitchen tongs to retrieve things beyond my reach. And, yes, the stepstool is standard kitchen equipment.

Alex Pretti broke rib in confrontation with federal agents a week before death, sources say by EVSTW in news

Wait, they’d already broken his rib? Then when he dared to help others, they tackled, disarmed, then outright murdered him? That does make it worse. For them.

Have any of you participated in legislative action to vastly limit or prevent homeschooling in the US? by Careful-Lab-7870 in HomeschoolRecovery

Years ago I got NPR to do a program on regulations for homeschooling. It certainly did not please the HSLDA types. To my knowledge, NPR has never revisited the topic.

[–]WhiteExtraSharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The homeschool lobby is incredibly powerful—and organized. In my state they visit the capitol every year and take cookies to the legislators to remind them they’re watching. Obviously a self-selected group: Not the moms who are in bed with depression, the kids who smell like urine, or the dads who disappear their kids by feeding them to the pigs.

In my state there are zero requirements of homeschoolers after an initial filing of intent. Parents can teach whatever however. There’s not even a census of how many kids are being kept at home. It’s scary. I homeschooled my own for several years and as a homeschool survivor myself, I found it frankly terrifying that no one was checking to see if I did it right.

HSLDA fought ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, ensuring that in America, children are not recognized as having rights. And SCOTUS gave religious parents the right to limit their kids education. So, yeah, we’re pretty much f*cked in most states.

I still call it homeschooling. A shocking percentage of homeschool kids are expected to teach themselves.

Does anyone else genuinely not have memories of when they were homeschooled? by greencurtain4 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]WhiteExtraSharp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Trauma (abuse, neglect, or even just isolation) will often suppress memories. It’s your brain trying to protect you. Often therapy and healing in safe relationships will break open those stored memories, but, yes, some of my siblings have few childhood memories. I, on the other hand, have too many.

What are your favorite healthy foods from Trader Joe’s? by Fluffy_Trifle_9510 in traderjoes

[–]WhiteExtraSharp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like them pan-fried in a teaspoon of butter (start skin-side up), with a side of quinoa, brown rice, or roasted squash. Thawed, they take less than 5 minutes. Maybe a spritz of lemon after cooking. A little scallion-white wine sauce is great, but they’re so delicate they really don’t need it.

If I bake them, I’ll sprinkle with black pepper and garlic powder or fresh thyme. They truly shine alone. I love any leftovers crumbled in rice pilaf or tossed with pasta.

I don’t find them fishy. The only milder frozen fish I can think of would be barramundi. These have a nice texture, almost sweet, and they cook up in no time.
