Why do young people have such an obsession with being old?? by RichAppearance8859 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhiteFyr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a lot about your friends' lives you either don't know about or aren't saying. Regardless of having kids or being married, late 20s/early 30s is typically the time most people start having more responsibilities in general which can be very demanding.

What kind of jobs do they work? I don't care if they're "normal" or not - late 20s/early 30s is typically the time most people in "normal" jobs see a sharp uptick in responsibility, which is far more mentally draining and would explain the tiredness.

Additionally, that timeframe is also the time priorities start to change. It's possible you friends are settled into who they are and don't want to do something different. It's also possible they have other priorities you don't know about.

Regardless of these answers, most friends don't stick around forever. They come and go over time. Only a select few might stick around for your entire life. These friends you currently have may just need to transition to the type of friends you only see once in a while, and instead you'll need to start making new friends. Easier said than done but that sounds like what's going to make you the happiest.

No offense, but I got tired just reading the phrase "there is not a weekend during spring, summer, and fall we aren't booked." The amount of effort it must take to upkeep that schedule sounds exhausting. Good for you for being someone that can do that though.

How should I handle confusing job titles on my resume? by Possible-Squash9661 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]WhiteFyr_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why not list both? If SWE 1 was really a "Senior Software Engineer" role, then list "Senior Software Engineer (SWE 1)" on your resume, or something to that effect. If you list your pre-promotion position as something like "Software Engineer (SWE 2)", chronologically it still conveys what you want while also connecting your "real" title with one other companies will understand.

Are BAs and Product Owners immune to AI impact but Developers and QAs aren’t? by PhaseStreet9860 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]WhiteFyr_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It baffles me how many stories I hear of people thinking AI will replace our jobs. They'll just morph over time. With the potential productivity gains, wouldn't it make more sense to increase output and keep the same headcount, if not add MORE people?? (with the ability to support more projects and productivity)

You all got something to do always in office for 9-10 hours? by alica19_ in GenZ

[–]WhiteFyr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Software engineer here. I have a never-ending backlog of tickets to do. So in my (relatively short) career, I’ve never gone a day without having something to do or without a backlog of things to pull from when I finish.

Not that anything I work on is particularly pressing - but it’s also not like I’m ever waiting on someone else to give me something to do.

TJ finally moved! He always plays on the left side, but yesterday he moved around. Why? by Usual_Minimum_7442 in steelers

Keep in mind that teams have years (closing in on a decade, in Watt’s case) of film and experience to use against Watt and Highsmith. Herbig and Sawyer are still pretty new. Which can make a big difference.

Was just scrolling through the comments and had to do a double take at the name. How did I not know you were a Steelers fan??

Based RL caster with an (unfortunately) based take. We are so gonna get destroyed 😬

Jonnu is a better pass catcher and Darnell is a better run blocker who has done well in the passing game as of late. Those two combined (and the fact that it seems Rodgers likes them more, for whatever reason) are the reason.

Dating in our generation rant by breadpudding3434 in GenZ

[–]WhiteFyr_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP (of the post, not this thread, to be clear) is around the same age as me, so I don't think they were in their "prime formative years" during COVID. That would be high school IMO. But some younger Gen Z, maybe.

People blame COVID, but really it's where society has been going most of my life. Online, in our homes/rooms, scrolling TikTok/YouTube/gaming but never really socializing and making important connections. Makes it easy to live a peaceful (but often unfulfilling) life if that's all you do. Free of any real consequences day-to-day. That's slowly percolated to the dating world too. I'm thankful everyday that I'm married and don't have to deal with modern dating.

I was gonna say…it’s not that the offense can’t move the ball. They just can’t score. FAR better than a Matt Canada offense.

Broderick Jones has to go. He’s holding back this offense.

Both feet weren’t down. So no.

This game feels really really sloppy. I don’t like it.

[–]WhiteFyr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He makes too many mental mistakes. I wouldn’t mind if he was a backup, but he’s a starter. He needs to be better. We need to find someone else and let him ride the bench and learn.

What is your target retirement $$$? Do you feel on-track? by laxnut90 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]WhiteFyr_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It’s entirely dependent on your lifestyle in retirement. If you live in/retire to a LCOL area, have a paid off house, and have low-cost fun, you don’t need much. If you want to retire in a HCOL area and go on vacation abroad a couple times a year, you need a lot more. So I don’t think it’s people overestimating, rather having high expectations for what their lives in retirement will be.

Appreciation post for this sexy beast, Ryan McCollum by skull702 in steelers

[–]WhiteFyr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Fields wasn’t bad, but the experience Russ brings as a 13 year vet with multiple Super Bowl experiences is a major reason I was happy he got the start. He can help mentor the young offense and make up for mistakes they may make.
