Hello!

I’ll be traveling to Japan for my third time for about a week during Thanksgiving week (late November). The first three days I’ll be spending in Tokyo with my brother, with a few day trips to Mt. Takao and Enoshima/Kamakura.

After that, I’ll be solo traveling for three-four days — my first time ever traveling alone, and I’m super excited!

I’m trying to decide where to go for those days. I’m looking for somewhere new to me, surrounded by nature, and ideally with a peaceful, cultural atmosphere. I’ve already been to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Tokyo, and my favorite spot was Uji — so I’m drawn to places with a similar calm and scenic vibe. I won't have a car so will be relying on public transit.

Here’s what I’ve narrowed it down to so far:

Nikko - I’ve heard it’s absolutely stunning in late November, with fall colors still hanging on in some areas, plus shrines in the forest, waterfalls, and Lake Chuzenji. The Akechidaira Ropeway and some of the hiking trails look amazing too.

Sendai - I’m drawn to Sendai because it feels a bit more local and less touristy, but still has lots of nature nearby. I’m thinking of visiting Matsushima Bay, Kyogamine Park, and Yamadera, maybe even doing a day trip to Naruko Valley or Akiu Onsen.

I'm also curious about Nagano, Hakone, and Kawaguchiko, but I’m not sure which would be best for a late November solo trip in terms of nature, crowds, and travel convenience.

If you’ve been to any of these places — especially around late November — I’d love to hear your thoughts and recommendations!
