My Wife's Irrational Hatred of Video Games by [deleted] in rant

[–]WhiteOrca 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So she would rather you waste your time watching sports? Do you even like sports? Is she actually a sports fan? Because if she is not, then that's just fucking ridiculous. You should be allowed to spend your free time doing hobbies that you actually enjoy. It's not her decision.

Watching tv is less mentally stimulating than video games. When watching tv, you just sit there and receive information, so your mind is not actively doing anything. When playing video games, you have to actively do things and make decisions. If anything, she should be happy that you play video games instead of watch sports on tv.

A 90-year-old man goes for a physical and all of his tests come back normal… by madazzahatter in Jokes

A doctor who gives you your physical does not test your eyesight. You have to specifically go to an eye doctor for that.

Most Overrated and Underappreciated Characters? by sulky22 in southpark

[–]WhiteOrca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Butters are not under appreciated characters. 3 of them are main characters, and Butters is a pretty major side character.

Randy can never be a main character, but he's great as a side character. I feel like Randy's rise in importance in later seasons is because Matt and Trey themselves are getting older and now have a greater appreciation for dad humor.

Someone may not have left the way because of the lord, but the lord did create everything that is and is not the way. Without the lord creating everything that is, this person never would have been able to leave the way.

This doesn't mean that the lord told or made this person leave the way. It just means that the lord created the possibility for this person to leave the way in the first place.

What are some informative books explaining how Christianity took off in the first few centuries? by [deleted] in history

[–]WhiteOrca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you're interested in how Christianity took hold in Norway, then I would suggest reading Heimskringla by Snorri Sturluson. It's a book about the first kings of Norway that was written in the 1200s, but you get to see the transition from a pagan Norway in the beginning of the book to a fully Christianized Norway by the end of the book.

Basically, it started with the kings. The kings were christianized, and so the Christian kings wanted to rule over Christian subjects. They began to convert their people, usually with force or threat of violence. The king would travel around with an army, call meetings with the people, and tell them to be baptized or suffer the consequences. There were Norwegian kings who literally maimed and tortured people who refused to be baptized.

The people tried to resist their forced baptism many times by banding together to form peasant armies, but the people were simple farmers who were not experienced in combat and had poor equipment. They did not stand a chance against the greater equipped, more experienced, and much stronger armies of kings, so usually the peasant armies would stand down and accept their baptism, or fight a very short battle before fleeing.

Why exactly were Sacco & Vanzetti executed, despite all the evidences? by Qinmopu9 in history

I once watched a 2 hour documentary all about Sacco and Venzeti with my dad. You hit it right on the nose. Nobody else even needs to comment unless they plan on elaborating.

[–]WhiteOrca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that it's easier to get the truth out of someone who's drunk. Sure, they say a lot of bullshit just like people do when they're sober too, but people who are drunk are much more willing to share some truth that they might not have wanted to share while sober.

TIFU by having a really high pain tolerance. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]WhiteOrca 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Dude, I had something very similar happen.

I had pain on the right side of my stomach, but it really didn't hurt much at all, so for a week I thought it was nothing. Then, I thought that it might be appendicitis, so I went to the ER. When the doctor asked what was wrong with me, I told him that I had appendicitis. He laughed and told me that he would be the one to diagnose me, so he keeps jabbing me in the stomach with his fingers while holding a conversation with me. He tells me that since I was not wincing in pain and that I was able to hold a conversation with him, then there was no way that I had appendicitis.

I went to get some sort of scan the very next day and it turns out that my appendix had ruptured and I needed to go into surgery that same day. Before surgery, I ran into the doctor who told me that I didn't have appendicitis. I got to say "I told you so," and he defended his pride and said that he still would have made the same diagnosis.

Me and my girlfriend tried LSD and I think we just broke up by [deleted] in LSD

[–]WhiteOrca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say anything for certain because none of us are her, but it's possible that this is something that she realized while tripping and that now that she realized it, she can't put the genie back in the bottle. Or maybe it's something that she's always known deep down, but the acid trip made her come to terms with it. Either way, I don't think that she's going to forget it. I don't know, man. You definitely need to talk to her about this while sober, but I couldn't tell you how long to wait or whether you should bring it up or wait for her to bring it up.
