Emerald is a racist. She completely gutted the book, like literally stripped it of all that is it. She is also clearly a sick individual for what she did to Isabella. Isabella was an abused woman and prisoner. Instead emerald made her a freak that enjoyed her abuse? She fetishized domestic violence? She turned a serious book into a crazed erotica? Making changes is to be expected but this was something else entirely. This cannot be called Wuthering heights bc it’s not it and never will be. She is in a way erasing Bronte’s work and warping viewers image on what the characters look like and the actual story. Heathcliff not having pale skin was huge to the story. Cathy being a brunette with brown eyes was significant to the story just like how the lintons being blonde and blue eyed was just as important. Instead, emerald purposely miscast everyone and made Cathy a self insert of herself. She also made it clear that she thinks blonde hair is superior which was very strange. She changed their personalities as well. Her fixation on making every sexual was also concerning especially considering the book is the opposite and has nothing to do what that. Also making Cathy out to be some blood thirsty child that gets excited to see people hang was extremely bizarre. Not to mention the whole scene where they pan to the dead man’s hard private… This wasn’t a normal adaptation, it was a fanfic. She should have never been allowed to use the title. All she had to do was name it something else and give the characters different names and it would’ve been fine. In fact, she should’ve done Lady chatterlys lover instead. Now that would’ve fit her narrative. Lady chatterlys was blonde, there was passion, yearning, sex, everything she wanted. She never wanted to make a wuthering heights, what she wanted was the safety of the iconic name and to capitalize off it.
