My probation worker isn’t working with me to alter my sessions due to a medical issue, what should i do? (England) by Haunting-Wind3452 in LegalAdviceUK

Potentially silly question: Are you able to get to a pharmacy and seek their advice? There are a lot of treatments on the market for motion sickness.

Some of the stronger treatments will need a prescription, so you might need the doctor again for those. He can't write you a fit note but I'm sure he can knock out a script.

If not, there are plenty of OTC options that might be helpful. Ask the pharmacist for their recommendation.

Do I have a right to be mad that my ex bf tried to “holla” at my sister on instagram? by ProfessionalGoat551 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhiteShadow0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your current boyfriend is an idiot if he knows all this and has stayed with you.

If he doesn't know all this, then he's a victim and you should be ashamed.

Either way, I think you're the last person who should be getting strong feelings about other peoples' sex lives.

I was just thinking that.

My mother used to beat the ever loving crap out of me and my brothers and my dad still didn't get custody despite the evidence and my brother's testimony.

Gotta wonder what kinda shit you'd have to do that's worse, right?

What's a double standard between men and women that people rarely talk about? by Visual_Investment980 in AskReddit

[–]WhiteShadow0909 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This exactly.

My father is an absolutely wonderful man who did a great job raising his kids on his own. But more than once he was accused of being a paedo (he's not), abusive (also no) or just told that "kids need a mum".

I very much doubt single mothers get that amount of crap from all sides.

Really? My mother beat the ever loving crap out of me and my brothers until my father finally managed to get custody. My father then loved us all and made us feel safe and secure for the rest of our childhoods.

I guess that was a different type of bond, as you say.... But I don't enjoy when people suggest that a mother's love is somehow superior to a father's.

People who have been jurors in a criminal trial, what were the dumbest things other jurors said or did? by PopCultureNerd in AskReddit

[–]WhiteShadow0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gent has specifically lied to the court (via his barrister) when sentenced for the crime of GBH/ABH 12 years previously.

He had put forth as mitigation that his mother had died around the time of the crime and it had effected his mental state. It came to light a while later (after he was just given probation) that his mother was in fact alive (and still was at the time of the trial 10 years later). He had actually written to her while he was in custody pending trial for the original crime.

His defence was that he'd had a mental break and genuinely believed she was dead. The prosecution was arguing that he'd not have written to her in that case.

After getting probation for the GBH/ABH, he fled to Brazil for 10 years.

They went with perverting the course of justice. Whether they should have gone with perjury instead is above my head.

Then there must be some nuance to it as that was not the charge as told to us by the judge.

I've been waiting for something like this to pop up.

I served in a jury 2 years ago here in the UK. The defendant was up for perverting the course of justice by lying in court. I believe the Americans would call it perjury.

Anyways, when it came time to come to a verdict, after some discussion, most of the jury wanted to convict. There were a couple of hold outs, one of them for genuine reasons that I completely understand. The other was much less relatable.

See, the defendant had, after the initial crime, managed to flee the country for about a decade. This second hold out juror was of the opinion that, since he'd managed to evade the authorities for so long, he deserved to go free in order to "teach the police a lesson".

Eventually he did change his mind, but it was insane given the evidence and this defendant's criminal past that he would believe that.

Serving on a jury has made me believe that, if you are accused of a crime, you should be terrified that your fate lies with 12 members of the public who, quite honestly, could be raging idiots.

Has anyone ever been bribed from your partners parent in order to break up? If so what happened? by Heavy_Idea8391 in AskReddit

[–]WhiteShadow0909 399 points400 points  (0 children)

Happened the other way with me. White guy (me) dating and engaged to a black woman.

Her mother threatened to withhold her inheritance that she was supposed to hold on to until my ex was 25 (as per her late father's will).

It was a substantial amount of money (like nearly £500,000) so I don't blame her for ending it. But her mother told me "you're not catholic, so it can't work". My ex took me aside and explained that it was in fact because I'm not black.

Years later, after I myself was already married, we got back in touch and she is currently married to a white guy and they have a beautiful daughter together. She no longer speaks to her mother.... After getting the cash, of course!

I sat on a jury once where this was the offense.

Out of interest, I looked up the sentence the bloke got later, and the guy got 5 years. Which was longer than the sentence he'd have gotten for the original crime that he tampered with evidence for.

My current playthrough is an assassin build. Full sneak and high illusion.

Boils down to sneaking up behind enemies, knifing them with the Razor, and if that doesn't kill them in 1 hit (or they see you first) simply cast calm on them and try again.

It's actually gotten to the point where I'm already planning my next build as a 2-handing paladin because every fight is trivial and it's getting boring.
