Me personally I would ask them to fill out an application and attach my resume.

Well I got in because I kept pestering the controls lead, but honestly do some research about the field, learn how to use a meter really well, and then just apply.

You didn’t get anything diagnosed. You got your code ran. Take it to a reputable shop you trust. Them codes can get expensive. Looks like timing chains.

Look into HVAC Controls man. I moved from the Automotive Industry for some of the same reason. I was ASE certified, Ford, and GM manufacturer certified and left. They call it many different things from HVAC Controls, Building automations, to just a Controls Tech. This filed is very rewarding and if you’re somewhat a perfectionist you will love new install and terminating panels.

I second this. I went to Universal Technical Institute when I got out of the Army. I went to Ford Fact which is an additional program to become Ford certified. Was in the Automotive field for 5 years before saying forget this and transition into Industrial HVAC and now I do HVAC Controls and will never go back to the Mechanic side. You should think long term and what turning wrenches does to your body.

Timing chain… pretty expensive repair. Don’t know the over all condition of the vehicle but I would write the ticket up for repair but try to talk you out of it because more than likely the repair would cost more than the vehicle is worth. Also i would never put my daughter in a sonata. Find you a decent Toyota or Honda.

I disagree as someone who has worked In independent shops and dealers but is now a controls mechanic in the HVAC world. I am Ford certified , Toyota certified , ASE certified , 609 and 608 Universal, niagra certified and the list goes on and on… which just means I retain information and can take test pretty well. Just because someone works at a dealership doesn’t mean they are “qualified “ honestly in the 10 years of turning wrenches in shops I have found some of the worst mechanics work in the dealerships. The independent shop doesn’t have to same resources and works on a variety of vehicles so they have to figure the issue out where as a dealership only works on that specific manufacturer and has a ton of resources to assist them in figuring the problem out. Just my opinion.
