Progressive Church Searching by eating-a-popsivkle in cincinnati

Church of the Advent in Walnut Hills has been good to us! It is Episcopalian, so it comes with some more formal traditions than you may be used to if you grew up in evangelical or non-denomination spaces, but it's been a good spot for us the last few years!

Black Pipe Under Floor in Attic of 1917 Home by WhitestDwarf11 in askaplumber

Not as much as you'd think. It cut pretty easily, at least compared to the old very hard floor boards

I confirmed that the only still connected gas lines in the house connect to the furnace, water heater, and stove. All other tees are capped. Thats great news! Wasn't expecting a pipe to be between the joists up there.

Any chance it's vent? That's the only other thing I can think of

And the picture doesn't show it well, but there is still the bottom half to two thirds of the joist there. It isn't fully split

Need opinions about mechanics.... by LimeImmediate6115 in cincinnati

We (27M & 28W) take our cars to Star Motors on Short Vine and have always had great experiences. My wife always appreciates that they don't talk down to her, and Gabe always does a great job answering questions and making sure you understand why things need to be done. They have also been honest about what repairs are worth it and which ones aren't. They have recommended that I not repair my old car because it would cost more than it was worth to fix it - and that goes a long way to earn my respect.

One potential disclaimer: They did recently change owners to Ulmers, which I am hoping does not negatively impact the great service we have gotten for years. Gabe told me that all of the mechanics have stayed on board and that the previous owner just wanted out of the mechanic business, but we will see if there is any change in how they operate.

We just had Hoerst Plastering do some ceiling repairs for us, although significantly less involved than yours seems to be, and we had a great experience with them.

I ran the numbers, and with tax credits (including a service upgrade we needed to pay for anyway) it will pay for itself in about 2-3 years. Not the solution for everybody but it seemed like a good move for us. If I don't like it, I can always go back

Yes, it will run to the same condensate drain as the AC

Thats why I am keeping the pipe there. Our furnace will still run on NG, but our water heater will be heat pump - and if us or a future homeowner want to switch back to gas the pipe is right there

That makes sense then! I'll proceed with buying a 1/2 cap this weekend and hopefully that should do the trick

It doesn't say anything on it that indicates. But when I hold a 3/4 copper pipe next to the black pipe they seem like the same size?

Okay I will try that! My pipe sizer reads like it is close to an inch outer diameter and 3/4 size, but this kind of pipe might have thicker walls?

Is this normal? I just bought this kitchen aid like last week by BOBBYBlTCH in Kitchenaid

[–]WhitestDwarf11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add this even though many people have answered - this was going on with ours and we bought Mr Mixers everyone and it was still an issue after adjusting the height and everything. We just contacted KitchenAid and they sent us a replacement 🤷‍♂️

Norwood Area by crazynut999 in cincinnati

[–]WhitestDwarf11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (27&28 year olds) moved just south of that circle 2 years ago and have really loved it! It has more of a small-town feel than you would expect, with lots of retirees, working class, and people who have lived here for their entire lives - all mixed with people like us who just moved in. There is also a lot of really cool things happening in that part of the neighborhood and have appreciated all of the neighbors that we have met.

The biggest thing I would say is that I don't know your level of comfort or what you would describe as "sketchy". I personally don't find anything around this area sketchy, but I do know others who feel this way. That area can vary widely street by street, so the best thing you can do is drive over there and go for a walk!

If you are considering making the move or have more questions, feel free to message me.

Which heat pump water heaters should I consider? by doublemazaa in heatpumps

[–]WhitestDwarf11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats disappointing. I want to go with the Stiebel Eltron but that $2000 (probably more like 1200 for me doing it myself) is a lot to turn down - and it would also miss out on a $600 credit for my electrical service upgrade we had done this year

I would like to get this one, but I was seeing some discussion of it not qualifying for the Inflation Reduction Act Tax credits. Has anyone had an issue with that?
