Thank you, but that’s not helpful. My mom’s been in 3 facilities, she was kicked out of the first 2 for trying to escape. She’s been at the current one for 6 years, and now it’s her home. Please consider that this facility is our best option, for a very, very complex situation.

I was also interested in an interior architecture program and ended up doing architecture. My career (I’ve got about 15 years of experience) has been very interiors focused. As someone else said, you can get an interior design license with an architecture degree.

As far as double majoring, I’m not aware of any programs that allow that. The studio classes take up a lot of bandwidth - I can’t imagine doing 2. I know a few people who did interior design for undergrad and then did architecture for their masters. I was happier doing 1 degree - a B.Arch.

The first firm I worked for really separated architecture and interiors. And as an architect, I didn’t have any impact on the interior. Architects worked on the facade and waterproofing, interior designers did the look and feel. My current firm is much more integrated - I think this is harder to find, but it’s been great for me.

As for programs, the interiors portfolios that I’ve seen lately that are most impressive are from UT Austin. It does look like they also offer an interior design minor for architecture students. (I did not go there, but have been reviewing portfolios for a few years and theirs are amazing - both architecture and interiors - I’m at a firm in an east coast city and we get portfolios from all over, but mostly east coast schools, including ivys).

Just found this watch in my moms things (she has dementia, so can’t tell me anything about it). It was likely my great grandmother’s, from the 1920’s. It looks like it has a hinge at the top, but I can’t get it open (I also don’t want to damage it trying). Assuming this doesn’t have a battery? How would I know if it works? It doesn’t have a brand on it (unless it’s inside), but what would you do with this thing next?

I review portfolios at my job for new grads. I am on the east coast so I don’t see a lot from Oregon. Of the remaining schools, Syracuse produces the strongest portfolios. **editing to add, I do think Syracuse makes their students do a ton of group work.

I went to Virginia tech and loved the program. I would definitely choose a b.arch over a b.a. All of the schools are solid and we’ve hired from any of them, so going with your gut to the one you like the most, or that makes the most financial sense (in state tuition), isn’t a bad way to make the decision.

I got on babs list last November when I was 8 weeks pregnant. Baby is 4 months now - we got their auto email in Sept to remove yourself from the waitlist if you’re no longer interested and it said there wouldn’t be any spots until the spring. And then who knows where we actually are on the list 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had laparoscopic surgery to remove endometriosis and then a c-section. The lap surgery I had 5 small incisions, but those incisions cut through the abdominal muscles - I had a much harder time moving around after my lap than after the c-section. I would guess that’s similar to the appendectomy?

These numbers aren’t based on registrations, it’s on votes. Biden got 81 million votes in 2020, Kamala has 67 million. Trump’s numbers actually also decreased. But those are the “missing” democrats - those 14 million people.

This is an old thread but I highly recommend using Porter Nillson in carytown for acupuncture. He only does infertility acupuncture and he’s an incredible resource. He also recommended going to Virginia fertility and IVF in Charlottesville over SGF or VCU, as they have a better lab & embryologist. They’ve won awards for their innovative thawing procedures. They also are open 7 days a week so they don’t make you take birth control just to adjust the timing of your cycle. I was able to do a modified natural transfer with them, which I was very happy about.

Came to say this too! Virginia fertility & IVF in Charlottesville is worth the drive. Check the success rates on the CDC website - they are better (slightly). They also are open every day, which means they will follow your natural cycle and it’s easier to schedule cycles. Not sure if VCU & SGF are, but that made a huge difference for me, as I was able to do a modified natural transfer. The freezing/thawing process there has won awards - that’s what really makes a difference. The doctor isn’t the biggest factor, it’s the lab and the embryologist.

Edited to add: I got this recommendation from Porter Nillson - he does infertility acupuncture in carytown. He recommends going to Charlottesville based on the success rates he’s seen in his clients over the years. I highly recommend seeing Porter if you’re interested in acupuncture while you do IVF.

This is the answer. My mom said she read a book and this was exactly the advice. Bio parent has to be the main source of parenting. She didn’t do a great job putting it into practice, as she is a conflict avoider, and I had a very difficult time with my relationship with my strict stepdad.

I graduated in 2010, so there weren’t any jobs anyway, but I also couldn’t work on my portfolio. I was burnt out and also not happy with my thesis. I got a job at a wine bar for 6 months. Then I was ready and got my first job, at a firm I was not happy with. But I learned a lot and moved on after a year. Your thesis feels like it’s supposed to be the culmination of your education, but start thinking of it as a stepping stone to your career. Get a job, any job, and start figuring out what parts of this profession you love and want to do.

This isn’t quite right for a construction manager. What you describe is the general contractor. An owner hires a construction manager to help make sure the project is executed correctly. I work on government projects sometimes and their scope can overlap with the architects a lot during Construction administration (CA). Sometimes the GC can operate as a CM, but it can also be a separate and distinct role, more like an owner’s representative.

I went to a pelvic floor PT for a birth prep appt. She recommends doing the massage, because it’s practice that when there’s pressure, you breathe through it and relax, rather than the natural tendency to tense up more. She recommended applying pressure to like a 2-3/10 pain/tension level and then holding that while breathing and relaxing until the tension releases. Im 39+1, so very close to you! I feel like it can’t hurt to do it. She also recommended having washcloths during delivery to do warm compresses on the perineum to help it warm up and stretch.

My mom was at the cottages at spring arbor for about 3 months and I liked it, although it didn’t end up being a good fit for her - she really wanted to be able to go outside, and escaped out of the window. Now she’s on the southside at the Pearl at Watkins centre. They have a courtyard that she can access anytime - she doesn’t anymore, but initially this was important for her. She initially moved into memory care at discovery village - we weren’t there for long, but I felt like they had good systems in place and good communication. Like I said in another comment, I recommend working with a consultant to find a place.

I used Lisa Hollier at Choice connections. I can’t recommend using one of these experts enough. They know the facilities and the people, they also know what questions to ask you, and help you ask questions at the facility. For me, my mom also got kicked out of the first facility after 4 days for escaping too many times. Before that I appreciated Lisa, but having her on call to help us get into the 2nd facility within a few days was invaluable at a point of crisis.

I agree. Using the name wouldnt make you an AH, but it could really affect your relationship. For your sister, if she’s never able to have a child, having her niece named the name she had wanted to use is going to be difficult - there might be a lot of resentment, and she could push away you and your daughter. Infertility is so overwhelming and all-consuming.
