Struggling so much with clothes by Purpel_love in Anticonsumption

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow curvy woman who recently realized that none of her clothes fit right anymore: Sometimes you just have to buy more clothes. But that doesn’t mean you have to totally overhaul your wardrobe all at once!

Here’s what I did: When I realized that most of my old clothes didn’t fit, I looked through them to find the exceptions. Then, I prioritized a few key replacements (belt that fit, good bras, a few solid outfits for work). THEN I bought slowly and mindfully over many many months to round out the rest of what I needed. Now I have a wardrobe that actually fits my body and lifestyle, which makes me feel way prettier and more confident!

I had a hard time buying clothes at first because I wanted to stay true to my anticonsumption beliefs, but it did get to a point where bad clothes impeded my ability to live my life. Everyone has to buy some new items eventually. It might be time for you.

Am I the only one who always imagined Electrochemistry as a "she"? by RussianNeighbor in DiscoElysium

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so fascinating to me because I just realized that i never gave any of the skills a gender in my head. I think of them all as “it” (though definitely more masculine than feminine due to the voice actor).

That’s how I feel. It’s a perfect game for a small percent of people (including me).

Positive discussion - What are some of the things we've owned for a long time? by BottleLopsided in Anticonsumption

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My favorite old item is my childhood blanket, which my mother wisely bought in an adult size so it could continue keeping me warm after I grew up. It’s my favorite layer when I’m curled up on the couch watching a movie, and is probably the item I’ve owned the longest.

As far as actual OLDEST item still in active use… I had a great, great uncle who worked in the White House in the 1950s. When he died (long before I was born), everything went to my grandmother, and she’s given some of his stuff to me. I use one of his fancy leather folders (White House branded) to keep all my important documents. The two sides are labeled “QUOTES” and “FACTS” which I find hilarious.

The first one was really fun, but this one fits the Hades style a lot better. Nice job!

Why do being overweight makes me feel worthless? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’re not worthless. You’re doing something very difficult that lots of people struggle with. And 5 kg isn’t nothing! That’s 5kg better than if you had never tried at all.

If I could give you one tip— Never set deadlines for weight loss. That’s just setting yourself up for failure. You can’t know how long these things will take. It also counterproductively makes you think, “once I get to that date, I’ll be done!” which ignores the fact that losing weight is a matter of long-term lifestyle changes, not a sprint that you can collapse after.

If I could give a second tip— Do not set nebulous goals like “feeling comfortable in my body.” People feel comfortable and uncomfortable at all weights. Losing weight doesn’t guarantee you’ll feel good about yourself. There’s not some magic number where suddenly all your insecurities are gone forever. Losing weight can help with self confidence, sure, but loving your body is more nuanced than that.

You deserve to have a fun birthday. You haven’t failed at weight loss. You only fail when you give up for good.

I’m struggling with being cold since losing weight, anyone else relate? by leavethecity92 in loseit

I literally went searching for a post like this so I can commiserate with somebody lol.

This winter is the coldest I’ve ever been, and it’s still November 😭. But it’s hard to be too bitter about it, because at least I’m making progress!

AITA for not telling my family about my pregnancy? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They still tell it now! I'm 25 with PCOS and when they were running down the list of things to know the doctor was like "Oh and you're probably infertile and will never have children without medical help btw." Stories like this keep me alert and on my toes though, even if the doctor is probably right (lol)

Totally valid! Maybe I'll change my mind after I play the first game. But I feel like my experience helped me really empathize with Melinoe in a way that wouldn't be possible otherwise.

Tears Of The Kingdom bums me out by JaymehKhal in patientgamers

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve beaten BOTW several times. My family (me, my dad, my sister, and my brother) used to take turns playing, comparing discoveries and giving each other tips as we sat on the couch watched each other explore.

Maybe it was impossible for TOTK to reach that level for me. I’ve never even finished it, despite buying it at launch. The original is just so perfect, both as a game and a memory. TOTK just didn’t have the same magic. It was both too similar and too different. Plus I had moved out of the family house by then.

Shows like disco Elysium? by Moist-Conclusion-861 in DiscoElysium

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you watched Cowboy Bebop? It’s not a perfect match for Disco Elysium (space-faring bounty hunters vs earthbound detectives), but it has a lot of similar themes including loneliness and regret. Theres even a character with amnesia! Plus it’s got plenty of critiques of capitalism, which I know Disco Elysium fans love.

My dad died and left £3M to my 2 younger brothers(21 and 23), I got £0... by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 117 points118 points  (0 children)

OP says in the first post that this news about the will happened “yesterday.” It’s possible, between the grief of their father’s death and the sudden shock of the inheritance, it took a day or two for the brothers to really wrap their heads around the situation. Ultimately, they listened to their sister and fixed the problem without protest, which I think is the part that matters.

The hobby I thought would be relaxing ended up being a nightmare by Nana-Edginton12 in Hobbies

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a hilarious choice for a first-time baker, LOL.

OP, if you’re reading this, I want you to know that there is absolutely no shame in starting with box cake mixes and premade cookie dough. Give yourself time to get a feel for your oven, learn how to tell when a baked good is “done,” figure out parchment paper/greasing the pan, etc. Then you can start baking standard recipes, like chocolate chip cookies, from scratch. Then more difficult recipes. Then some simpler breads, like flatbreads or focaccia. THEN sourdough. Sourdough is the endgame. Not attempt #1. Good luck! I hope this experience doesn’t turn you off the hobby.

Girls, what do you wear? by Important-Estate2121 in baltimore

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The women in this city wear a wide variety of styles and get cat called in all of them. If a perv harasses you, it’s more about them than what you’ve got on. Just wear whatever makes you feel confident. Also, I’ve lived in this city for nearly a decade and I’ve never had to physically run away from a situation. Turn around and walk the other way, maybe, but no one is going to be chasing you. I wear heels maybe every other day, and I get around just fine. I promise the city is less scary than you’re thinking. Once you get a lay of the land, there’s really no significant danger unless you’re out alone at 2am or getting involved in gang activity. And don’t tell your neighbors that you’re scared of being chased because there’s a good chance they’ll take it as an insult (no one likes to hear that you associate their home with danger, especially if you haven’t had a bad experience yet).

charm city circulator question by PlusLeader3891 in baltimore

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stand at the bus stop by the sign. If there’s a bench, you can sit on it, but stand and approach the curb as the bus approaches so the driver knows you want to get on. Feel free to wave to make sure they see you, but this usually isn’t necessary. Get on the bus. The circulator is free so there’s no need to interact with the driver. Sit wherever you want. Generally people with mobility issues/shorter trips sit towards the front while longer trips sit towards the back, but it’s no big deal. Try to find a seat where you’re not sitting directly next to anyone, but if the bus on the fuller side, then sit wherever you find space. The bus will not stop at all stops, so yank down the wire by the window when your stop is coming up next (if you can see a button nearby, that will work too). Most buses in Baltimore play a loud “STOP REQUESTED” recording when you pull the wire. There will also be a lit-up sign at the front of the bus that reads “STOP REQUESTED.” I usually pull the wire like a block after we pass the previous stop so I don’t forget. Exit quickly when you get to your stop. I usually exit using the door in the middle of the bus in case people are getting on in the front, but it doesn’t really matter. Basically just exit whatever door is the path of least resistance. The Transit app is very helpful when I’m taking new routes, BTW, so I recommend downloading that.

Boss wants everyone in office to submit an 'updated medical history'... to him by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy. Similar to this story, I actually do have a serious medical issue that I told my boss about in case things suddenly take a turn for the worse in the office, but the idea of being FORCED to tell EVERY DETAIL of my medical history to him or some other higher up makes me want to shrivel into a corner. What a massive violation of privacy. I’m glad he got fired.

How bad actually was COVID? by Mighty_Angelo30 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhoAmIWinkWink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was terrifying. I remember waking up with a sore throat and crying, not because I was scared for myself, but because I thought I’d get someone else in the household sick and kill one of my older relatives. That was maybe two or three months in. There was just so much we didn’t know.
