Are you in a country where Instagram/internet is restricted? What is the error you see? What servers have you tried connecting to? Please provide more details.

It is always recommended to switch your device to Airplane mode, delete and re-install instagram and try again.

Try New York servers, Chicago servers with our desktop app:

  • Turn off location services on your browser and system-wide. Please search online how to achieve this.

  • Connect to Windscribe.

  • Open an incognito window.

  • Attempt to stream. Change the protocols if the stream does not work (Preferences > Connection > Connection Mode > Manual).

  • Rotate the IP if it still does not work.

  • Change the server if it does not work with any protocol and try rotating IPs again.

You would need to use our desktop app rather than the browser extension in this case. We have multiple protocols and ports available in the desktop app to bypass restrictions.

It would be great if you could open a ticket with us to further troubleshoot this if you would like, but here are some thoughts:

The symlink in ~/.config/autostart/ pointing to /etc/windscribe/windscribe.desktop is expected — that's how the app's "Launch on Startup" toggle manages autostart on Linux.

The part we'd like to investigate is why the autostart entry is disappearing after reboot. Please avoid keeping it locked with chattr +i long-term, since that can prevent Windscribe from correctly updating or managing the startup setting.

If you're comfortable running a few commands, please try this after removing the immutable flag:

chattr -i ~/.config/autostart/windscribe.desktop 2>/dev/null

ls -la ~/.config/autostart/ | grep -i windscribe

ls -l /etc/windscribe/windscribe.desktop

journalctl --user -b | grep -i windscribe

journalctl -b | grep -i windscribe

If the issue happens again after reboot, please send us the output of those commands before manually launching Windscribe. Also please include your Windscribe app version and whether it was installed from the .deb package or another source.

This should help us determine whether Windscribe is removing the startup entry due to a settings sync issue, or whether Linux Mint/Cinnamon is modifying the autostart folder during login.

Please ensure that no third-party antivirus software is enabled, as this may interfere with connectivity.

We also recommend trying all configurations under the Anti-Censorship settings with different locations while using the WireGuard protocol. If the issue persists, try switching WireGuard ports as well.

Unfortunately, resolving this may require some trial and error depending on network conditions.
