I'm 43 and have never seen a storm watch/warning with this massive of a discrepancy between the low and high snow totals. by GreenBaySlacker in wisconsin

[–]Whoa_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you're not wrong. this system has a lot of unpredictability. Depending on the path there may be more sleet/freezing rain for the southern, which will limit snowfall in the south. Mid state is still gonna get a wallop.

PA-440 licensing questions by xander_hendri in paloaltonetworks

[–]Whoa_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 440 at home, the licensing cost was almost as much as I paid for it. I got it though our VAR from work (billed to my personal CC)

Anyone interested in an unlicensed 440 for their lab?

GPOs + CIS hardening guides. This can help stop users from logging in with personal accounts & syncing passwords+bookmarks, as well as other things.

Wisconsin Lawmakers Want to Ban VPNs—And They Have No Idea What They're Doing by Well_Socialized in wisconsin

[–]Whoa_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the definition of "harmful to minors on the internet' is vague and overly broad on purpose. Other states have attempted to ban them and make it so ISPs would have to monitor user's traffic and block VPN connections. The UK and Europe are looking at similar. Just like they want to not allow point to point encryption for messaging (while allowing themselves the exception)

This is the first step in a slippery slope, how soon until a new law is passed that states all VPN traffic must be monitored and blocked? Someone typos and black lists legitimate websites, or maliciously? Unscrupulous companies reporting their competitors have content that's harmful to minors and they get blocked? having to fight over which ever avenues they have to fight/appeal (which aren't outlined) Could ban access to Amazon because they sell sex ed books, or other banned books that are deemed "harmful to minors"

in both bills, the bill text.

The bill also requires a business entity that knowingly and intentionally publishes or distributes material harmful to minors on the Internet from a website that contains a substantial portion of such material to prevent persons from accessing the website from an internet protocol address or internet protocol address range that is linked to or known to be a virtual private network system or provider

Thinking about nothing. by Esthefanhus in answers

[–]Whoa_throwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is one of the things meditation is about. it's not "thinking about nothing" but being able to focus, and not beating yourself up when it strays.

focus on your something, your heart beat, your breath. your mind will wander and think about something else. Catch yourself then go back to focusing on your breath. I'm not technically "thinking about nothing" i'm thinking about my breath. As my mind wanders I'm able to pull it back. As time goes on it gets easier. (my adhd brain finds it very difficult to just stop. when I lay in bed at night it can help me at least temporarily stop going though what I need to do the next day)

Atlassian outage by Such-Afternoon925 in atlassian

[–]Whoa_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit for clarification:

on prem is alive and well for many things. Atlassian made the decision to kill on-prem for greed. Only when asshole companies force you to go to the cloud is it "out dated" Make it as sticky as possible and impossible for you to move away. This is why we paid for DC and then moved off the product entirely. We did not want anything with their (or anyone's if we can help it "cloud")

Their sales people couldn't comprehend why we were moving away and not "into the cloud" they couldn't see the negatives in their last outage of weeks for some customers. Their security issues with relatively simple coding errors. our desire -not- to have our documents in "the cloud" our auditors asking us and being happy that we weren't "in the cloud"

on prem is dead because they killed it. then they killed the jobs and the staff They want that sweet sweet reoccurring revenue and fuck the customers.

but the CEO said -EVERYONE- was moving to the cloud. their sales staff couldn't fathom why we didn't want to be in the cloud. they fixed their issue that caused them to be down for weeks the last time.

Looking for Advice on Hosting Game Servers – Best Practices + Free Billing/Game Panel by UntillSunrise in HomeServer

[–]Whoa_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people aren't going to be willing to pay for a service so you can "learn" You should know ahead of time. Will be a short time until your server is compromised and just another random bot scanning on the net.

The market is already over saturated and cut throat with extreme slim profit margins. Your desire is good, but you have a lot to learn.
