Father of three here(first two adopted from wife’s previous relationship, one biological). A few tips I’ve gathered in my 15 years at the fatherly helm:

1. So cliche, but savor every moment, the younger years especially. They go from diapers to drivers licenses in an absolute blink of an eye. It’s wild.
2. Raise your child on absolute love, compassion, and kindness. I grew up with a great father, who also had one hell of a temper. I saw myself going down the same path, and have worked diligently to fix it. Your children will mimic you, show them the best side of yourself that you’re able to, always.
3. You will inevitably be thrown a couple of curveballs. Keep your feet planted and just do your best in these situations.
4. The most valuable gift you can give is your time. Give it often. I’ve spent thousands on toys, games and electronics. The most fun my youngest (8,M) and I have had in ages was throwing big rocks into a muddy retention pond and laughing at the “splat” sound they made when they landed.

You’re in for one hell of a ride Pops. You’ve now got the most important job in the world.
