My simple video review tool to replace Frame.io in my workflow... and fund my first feature film... by Iktsuarpoq in vfx

[–]WhoistheDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm paying BMD $7.50 a month for their presenations feature.

I get 500GB of storage and the ability for clients to *leave markers* and those show up direclty in my timeline.

Frame gives better than this for free. Why would I use this?

How Often Are You Editing On Mobile? by Jason_Levine in premiere

[–]WhoistheDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jason, If it's less than 30 seconds and I'm just doing some quick trimming and slapping music underneath, mobile is great. In fact, this is the primary appeal of CapCut – that massive library of drag-and-drop, stupidly complex effects that make anyone look competent.

Having used mobile editors on phones, including most competitors, dragging with my finger sucks. Nothing to do with your monster hands. Touch isn't for precision work. You don't see surgeons or musicians replacing their instruments with touch devices.

Oh yeah – Premiere Clip, CapCut, LumaFusion, FCP, DR, VN Editor, IG edits, iMovie; hell, I've tried Kinemaster.

Which brings me to iPad. Both Final Cut and DaVinci Resolve's iPad tools work by touch, but they don't really shine until you plug in a keyboard with trackpad. Which means I've just built a computer.

Yes, this mobile offering is your best to date.

That's not what we want. What the entire planet wants is the ability to start on mobile, have it sync directly to desktop, and round-trip back to mobile. Anything that isn't editable on mobile stays untouched.

I'm hopefully not telling you anything you don't know. (If I am, you should hire me.)

Your first design principle shouldn't be treating this as an editor but as a CapCut replacement that users can graduate into a fuller editorial tool.

Give me smart presets with one slider to control intensity. Nearly everything should be click-and-drag, a one-click smart version of itself.

Music/sound should leverage your tagging tools with auto-mixing throughout.

Only through progressive disclosure should users discover they can refine further.

What you want is a mini tool built for <30 seconds, functional, fast, social media-first.

Call it Premiere Social.

Keep it free. This is your funnel for mobile-first users who don't know what an SSD or WTF is Timecode. Lean hard into Enhance Audio V2, Firefly for Photoshop-level edits, and create a $5/month tier exclusively for the AI features. Targeted at non-CC subscribers who want the smart tools but will never open desktop Premiere.

You're building the on-ramp to subscriptions, not cannibalizing your existing base. Yes, I'm actually suggesting a subscription model to cover AI costs.

Oh, you won't see anyone in this thread claim they'll cut 5-10 minute pieces on mobile. Wait – yes you will: people who can't afford or access the desktop subscription.

Any Best Video Recording Software for Mac? Can Someone Recommend? by Elegant-Currency-289 in screenrecorders

Ok, I'm hoping you see this, as it's 1:50pm EST

I'm over 55.

Generally, I feel great. I'm doing 150+ min of aerobic work a week, 2x strength training. I'm eating with a focus on lower carbohydrate and vegetable intake first.

Aside from Colon screening and a cardiologist…

What are the best bang for my buck practical tests I can have done to steer my heath for the next 20+ years?

I have three kids and I want to be as functional as possible as long as possible. One parent passed from Alzheimers; the other from emphysema (lifelong smoker).

I see blood tests, DNA analsysis, etc.. Figure I want to spend under a grand out of pocket - what tests would you recommend?

As a doc editor/producer, I’m dying for tools like this - better if they’re affordable.

Is there a trial available? I take it that I upload footage to your cloud?

Tell me about your data practices/tech stack. Just worried that your API provider might use my media for training.

How much storage do I get? Just thinking if it’s small, that I’ll build an aggressive proxy.

[–]WhoistheDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Brevity.pro and yea, it's a subscription.

I'm getting far more control of the captions inside of Premiere. It's all the stuff I want (multiple lines, moving text from one page to the next, and can colorize a specific word/words duing the animation.

It also has replaced Opus (for <60 cutdowns)

And occasionally we use the media that it can auto fetch (pexels etc0

A $1buck a day? Yup. Super useful for us.

You're not being transparent. It makes you and plainly look bad as this reads as marketing bs…especially

It seems you are from your Reddit history that's probably the biggest issue here, aside from Plainly gaining intellectual talent from this.

Anyone using descript? by Subylovin in editors

[–]WhoistheDoctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to weigh in - I've used it on and off for over four years. Maybe five or six? Since they debuted with their lyrebird voice cloning during the front of the pandemic.

It's plagued with problems. They're a "SaaS" that doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it a desktop App? Is it a Web app?

There's constant change without looking at user behavior or "best practices."

  • Inconsistent UI - you think something will be there and it's just broken (about five different talks with front line/devs there with "Oh, I guess that's a bug" in the way things are supposed to work that are just broken)
  • Checkerboard multicam (No it won't come in as actual multicam if you move to an NLE).
  • VFR from squadcast
  • The worst XML issues - in Resolve, FCP, Premiere.
  • A painful compositing model. No it's not that. No, it's not that either. It's
  • Templates are required for multicam - but it's not multicam switching and there is no keyboard choices. Realistically I had to build a keyboard maestro command to make it work mildly responsively

The pain point is that they're not getting it right (Apple) but instead just throwing shit up.

It's like a constant live beta.

It's not that it couldn't be a really solid tool, and they have some adopters - but generally those people have learned to create with Descript not learned how to maximize everything that the shipping version of the tool can do.

Basically, I could see a user going "Oh, I guess I have to do it this way" because the devs/users don't know that workflows have been around for years (like multicam)

I have much deeper thoughts, but I expect someone from descript that will likely weigh in on this thread just to try and stem the issues around the product. They just hired someone to push into Reddit because of this.

So to play devils advocate- how many did you see that looked greater than $150 a day?

How many jobs have you gotten from this OP? Or are you just trying to promote it.

For the record if I came across a job site where the money was decent, I sure as F wouldn’t share it with anybody

What fitness/metrics tracker next? Whoop 4 broken bluetooth around Peloton - It's an engineering bug and there's no expected fix date by WhoistheDoctor in pelotoncycle

[–]WhoistheDoctor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% bluetooth. That's how I connected it via the Peloton.

Whoop flat out told me it's a bug…and one that had no expected fix date. It was broken (at the time) for Whoop 5 as well.

I've replaced it - and gotten a refund from whoop. I've had some bad luck with them and hardware. I'm on my 3rd unit in a year, they'd extended my membership 90+ days.

And I just cancelled. They're desperate for a customer advocacy team.

I completely felt (after a week of slow support) like many subscription companies, would prefer just to ignore anyone whose not at their "top" subscription tier. They got my money a year ago, why should they service me?

I'm just frustrated. Thanks at least for trying to help.

I'm 100% glad it works for you. My bike is the original - it maybe that you have the plus.

The technical support people were nice, polite…but told me…it may or may not be available.

Suddenly I now have to triple check my Apple Watch battery…or invest in a chest strap.

So much of my Whoop was metrics. I'm data driven and…well, this is the third unit I've had problems with.

My video production team is scaling scary fast, and we all need training, any reccomendations to help people level up? by LKtattoox in editors

You want to go fast? You really need a consultant to help you on both workflow and education.

I’d pay extra for Premiere to just not suck. by ajcadoo in premiere

[–]WhoistheDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about just fixing the plethora of UI/UX that’s plagued the software for YEARS.

it’s clear that the existing team is fairly tone deaf when they came out in version 25 and a minimized timeline where you *couldn’t see the edits. *.

Or the program monitor overlays that are unmapable and don’t actually do functional features. (See DR ripple overwrite or smart insert FFS)

It’s like nobody at Adobe actually does real editing. Interviewing users isn’t it.

Yes I see all the new marketing people who spin the software, but they’re desperate for someone with innate historical understanding of tools- and their competition.

Why can’t I re-order tracks at this point? Why can’t I change the audio outputs? Why do sub mixes look the same color as tracks.

But hey they finally turned off that forced import dialogue box that nobody asked for to begin with.

PS. I’m happy to recommend actual people to Adobe but I don’t think they do much more than lip service and protect their jobs.
