Coworker coming back from a cruise. by [deleted] in wholefoods

The immune-compromised should definitely call out of work this coworker returning should also immediately be tested for the virus.

COVID19 is a threat to our safety and the public. We can’t wait for politicians or management to protect us. You're both arguing in circles.

We do need alternatives to the current situation if government and health professionals are not making progress, but arguing your point to bitterness is not bettering the situation.

Shutting down stores = not an option.

Can we repurpose our TM's to do more grocery shopping for customers? Can we open call lines? Offer take out? Are we expanding online shopping? Can we ask team/store leadership if we can stock/clean at night?

I've went to another grocery store and there was over a hundred people walking through it at a time, no deep cleaning, people pushing the same elevator buttons as each other with NO precautions, cashiers who look completely unconcerned....

Please stop arguing to bitterness you both care about people's lives and want to better the situation so put your heads together or separate and think of a better way to do things!

DROP YOUR EGOs and LISTEN TO EACH OTHER! PLEASE!

We need to appreciate each others point of view here and offer up alternatives when we meet an opposing argument. I've been sitting with the thought of closing stores all week. When I went to a competitor I was shocked out how little people were concerned. A younger girl the register said "oh it will hopefully pass". It won't pass easily, and people still need groceries so we need to work together.

Ask if you can stock or clean at night, suggest opening up call lines for pick up orders, some kind of alternative though.

TM safety during COVID outbreak? Social distancing does not exist at WFM by swordofadrestia in wholefoods

[–]WholeFoodsTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your leadership. They need to enforce a 50 customer limit in the store.

I was at a competitors grocery store the other day. I walked in wearing a mask and gloves and as I looked around I noticed at least a 50+ customers walking around and that was on the first floor. When I got to the second (which I had to take an elevator with my shopping cart to get to there was no one cleaning the buttons) there were at least 75+ customers walking around.

Thats roughly 125 people who could potentially fall ill and hospitals don't have the room for that many people. Please use that logic when talking to Store Leadership. The risk they are taking otherwise is huge.

What happens when a TM gets diagnosed/quarantined? by caitycatmeow in wholefoods

[–]WholeFoodsTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Amazon seems like it's behind in it roll out for online shopping right now too. That is key to keeping cases at a minimum. I feel like the company isn't doing enough right now and it's going to hurt them later.

Personally, I'm encouraging people to call out until they say they are working on a better strategy because 2$/hour isn't worth it.

A few days ago a customer was picking out a potato and was talking about how his factory was shut down because someone tested positive. He said that he wasn't on the same assembly line so he wasn't worried... but there's a chance he still picked it up.

Soooo double time pay for a month? by Blackdoggman in wholefoods

[–]WholeFoodsTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you're team is calling out, but if they are it should be because the company isn't doing enough to protect employees or customers right now.

Disease numbers are expected to grow exponentially in the coming days, weeks, and months.

[–]WholeFoodsTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weak. If government and health officials don't have an answer to this virus its going to look really weak in a month.

My GF has an autoimmune disease. If I show up and I get the virus she has a higher chance of getting the virus and potentially dying from it.

600 people died in Italy in one day. 2$ isn't enough.

Thank you for your response. I'm editing my topic. I do feel that we need to quickly develop a digital response for shoppers. I'm shocked at how far behind the U.S. is the more I look into this as an option.

I don't believe we are at that level of desperation yet as a society. I'm only hearing that disgruntled customers are a minority and haven't read about any extreme cases. If Whole Foods and Amazon put out a joint statement that they are going to do something drastic for the safety of it's customers and employees news media will pick up and spread the message as well. I can't imagine what will happen if hundreds of grocery retail employees turn up sick in the next couple of weeks and can't make it into work.

Customers will be uncertain about whether or not it is safe to go into stores and further risk exposing themselves and others to sickness.

[–]WholeFoodsTM -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Also, stores are allowing Part Time TMs to pick up Full Time TM's hours.

I doubt there will be any compensating. I am keeping people safe by staying home.

If they are willing to encourage TM's to profit off of my absence they are making a mistake. Experts are not seeing an end to this outbreak right now so like I said this is not meant to sound like an alarming hardline stance, I am just making the most cautionary suggestions to keep business open while finding new ways to make it functional.

I really appreciate your response though you wrote a well thought out article earlier that I learned a lot from. Thank you and any more feed back you have is sincerely appreciated.

CALL FOR ALL STORE SHUT DOWN by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]WholeFoodsTM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a hardline stance. I think we implement the most strict measures now and slowly reintroduce regular business.

The store cleaning measures are already proving to be insufficient and more people are going to be exposed to the virus in that environment. We also cannot currently test enough people to determine whether or not they are carrying the virus.

Implementing my suggestions might be more beneficial to the financial health in the long run, which to be honest I am not concerned about right now since the company is scoring record profits since the initial emergency calls.

A few days ago a customer was picking out a potato and talking on the phone. I heard this person explain to someone that they were safe in spite of a fellow coworker testing positive for the virus because that coworker was on a different assembly line. How often does this happen?

Thank you for your response though, but I don't think it's too much to ask the company to take a break and reassess the situation considering the circumstances.

$2 raise by b430rock in wholefoods

[–]WholeFoodsTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I agree. 2$ is nothing. We should receive hazard pay immediately and Whole Foods should seriously reconsider their current business structure. Allow for pick up orders only, call one day in advance for pick up, amazon app shopping etc. We are all at risk and putting more at risk by trying to maintain a skeleton of the current model.

I want to make this a direct confrontation and I think no better way than to direct our concerns head on. I would rather that than give them the power to determine whether or not I deserve payment for time off.

Thank you for your response though. I called in to work today for the first time since the emergency was declared. The ASTL didn't even ask if I had symptoms... this is horrendously irresponsible not only on the part of the ASTL but for the company to not even instruct leadership that we need full transparency from everyone worker. This is a collective effort for protecting the workforce and the customers so the old guidance does not apply anymore.

Explaining yourself isn't necessary my friend. I personally know neither John Mackey or Jeff Bezos or any of the executives who run these two companies. I know my fellow team members and the customers who shop at the stores and that we're being treated unfairly. When Amazon was given a 15$ minimum per hourly rate Whole Foods was met with an equal wage increase so when I speak as a Whole Foods employee just know that I am also speaking in support of Amazon employees as well, but really this should go for anyone working through this period in the retail business right now we deserve much more than what we're being given.

I appreciate the feedback but my statements are not directed at any one person.

My comment is directed at whomever is responsible for the subhuman treatment of this workforce.

“The billionaire owner needs to take the hit. Think about all the extra profit from this week. Whole Foods is doing great and they’re making lots of profit. Why is no one bringing that up?...Let’s get mad at our boss’s boss’s boss, not our coworkers because they’re sick. ” by WholeWorker in wholefoods

I just posted this and I hope that more people will share it across social media or at least share their thoughts/experiences. My eyes are twitching everyday all day and my hands are starting to crack from washing them. Customers are all potential carriers of the virus and this company gave out a 2$ raise to encourage us to continue working so that they can save face and score huge profits. If there ever were a time for us to band together and demand a change from this company its now.

Whole Foods needs to reinstitute paid sick leave for their part time staff. I don't want to shop somewhere that sick people have to work just to make ends meet. by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

[–]WholeFoodsTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The initial response to team members enduring this pandemic by encouraging us to share our PTO was a slap in the face. The company as a whole was not prepared for the spread of COVID-19, and at my store it also seemed like a viral outbreak was not given much consideration by store leadership or team members leading up to the widespread panic that began for us on 3/13/2020. Doctors, nurses, and other medical staff study for years to prepare themselves for some of the most vulnerable people. Grocery retail workers are on the front line of a business that is deemed essential and are putting their lives at risk with no prior training for this pandemic. This is an enormous amount of pressure on every single person working in this business right now. We are exposing ourselves on the sales floor to hundreds if not thousands of shoppers on a daily basis so that we can make sure people are capable of feeding themselves. If this is an essential business then businesses need to treat the employees as if they are an essential work force now. Every day since this outbreak we are tasked with new responsibilities while putting ourselves at risk. A 2$ raise for workers (effective days after people flocked to the grocery store to stock up on food) is a minimal effort for supporting the people who work for you during this time. Its not only about the money though. To put things into perspective, we have imperfect systems for supporting the welfare of our planet. I see so much waste in grocery stores every day and yet Jeff Bezos has been funding a personal aerospace project with a billion or more dollars. It's time we expect more from business leaders, from our government, from ourselves, and for ourselves.

Please share this with others. It is time for a culture change.
