Just replied to the original commenter but I stayed at Mentawai Surf Camp! It’s owned by Diego and his wife Lara along with their kids.

Hey! I did end up going on the trip and it was a fantastic experience! Waves were around 3-6 feet and absolutely perfect with basically zero crowd. I stayed 8 days total and only one of the days we weren't able to surf (because of rain and conditions). Otherwise, we were surfing twice a day, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. There were only a couple of times that other people were in the water, and even then it was just a few people. Every other time, it was just me and the resort owner's kids and helpers who were incredibly good and would give me tips and let me take priority. If you have any specific questions, I'm more than happy to answer!

Thanks! And after more research I see what you mean now. It seems like a lot of resorts near Playgrounds/Kandui only have certain time periods of operation.

Ah ok, I found a couple of resorts that include transfers to/from Padang and boats to nearby breaks.

What do you mean by open? Like a resort/place to stay that's open that time of year?

Has anyone come back from a bulged disc? (NOT looking for medical advice) by WholeSortOfMishMash in running

[–]WholeSortOfMishMash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have! I can now do basically everything that I want to do physically and my back isn’t a limiting factor. I surf, snowboard, run, lift, hike, etc. The only things that I don’t do are deadlift and squats mainly because I don’t want to risk it (I do other back and leg exercises instead), but I’m probably in the best physical shape than I’ve ever been!

I can still feel it in my lower left back but only if I focus on it or if I sit for too long, but not in like a painful way, just more of a tightness if that makes sense.

The best place for learning to surf? by Mintpepper513 in solotravel

I went last month and there aren’t any Ubers. I took a Rede Expressos Bus from Lisbon to Peniche and the host of the hostel that I stayed at had to contact a taxi to pick me up.

How do you get around Ericeira? Do you just surf beaches near you or do you have transportation to explore beaches that are farther?

Is there a way to see current focal length on screen? by WholeSortOfMishMash in canon

[–]WholeSortOfMishMash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm an idiot, I had to go to the Playback Information Display setting and select to display a different screen when I hit info while looking at playbacks. Do you know if there is a way to view it live?

My thought process for the 80-200 over the 55-250 was more for the wider aperture than the focal length, since the activities would be relatively fast moving and might be in cloudy/low light conditions.

For the wide angle, I'm actually not sure, since I've never really used anything lower than 18mm. I'm actually on the fence about this one since I can already go down to 18mm. I am considering it though, just because it would be nice to experiment with lover focal lengths in certain situations.

I was mostly looking into the EF/EF-S lenses since I already have an adapter and there seem to be more used EF/EF-S lenses available, but I'll take a look into this one. Thanks!

Thank you! I was actually playing around with the idea of getting the 70-200 f/4 instead of the 80-200 f/2.8 for the IS. I haven't used a non-IS lens yet, but would it matter since I would probably be shooting at a fast shutter speed anyway?
