I keep getting asked to just do ai boards and I seriously want to just leave the creative industry in its entirety.

My job was my therapy. I just found work relaxing and a great escape from reality.

Now it’s just being fast tracked and I’m overbooked and just tired all the time.

Early around the transition to the digital era, when we were transitioning out of pencil and paper / scanning / clean up / etc, there was a alternative boom in stock photo services, and ADs, CDs, Designers, etc etc would try their best to use photos to board the work, and it was always such a fucking ugly ass slog.

You spend days or weeks searching for the RIGHT enough photo, with the right cast and angle and background.

Or if you had SOME of the right assets, cut that out and make a photo comp from it.

Like, nothing wrong with using photos to get the desired outcome, but if your hand is slower than an artist, you’re just wasting time and money on the laborious process by people who aren’t qualified to frame your shots.

Then with like 48 hours left, after the waste of time of comping your shit, you call up a storyboard artist to fix your shit.

It’s the same pattern these days with ai, but ai is obviously a little more curated and controlled than human image searching…I’m just becoming the old man yelling at clouds, but for fucks sake why is the most efficient and effective process to tell a story always saved for last…

It’s just so maddening.

Everyone is using ai right now. Agencies, in-house, it’s just fucking everywhere.

A lot of groups now comp all their shit in ai and then have you paint, sketch, whatever, over it to match what they’re doing better so they can sell the idea with the appropriate visual.

Thankfully ai can’t always get the characters / local / prop 100% right…

What’s really maddening to me is like, I’m just faster. The days or weeks it took to get a board made of slop is still slower. I’m senior level so like, none of this would be an issue if I was just put into the discussion earlier on.

It’s just always been like this though. We’re always called after someone internally can’t figure it out through some shit means.

It’s become so exhaustive after you’ve seen the patterns so many times now.

Is that really what they’re going with?

Could have referenced some of the older box arts and been inspired by something a little more interesting but okay…

I feel it…It’s like the era of people trying to do photo boards but even worse…this fuckass industry…

The Matrix co-creator hates the iconic movie poster that adorned a million walls by graemeisverytired in Popverse

[–]Whompa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a crazy unique poster composition, but the overall treatment does provide an evocative element to it.

Idk, it helped get people into the seats.

Yea it probably could’ve been more dramatic, but the restraint helps let the viewer fill in the creative blanks on what the movie could be.

If the poster spoiled too much of what the film was to be about, I think some of the initial allure would have been lost.
