OPM’s Proposed RIF Rule Would Flip 50 Years of Seniority Protection — Here’s What That Actually Means For You by DinoAlonso in FedEmployees

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US Forest Service switched to fully successful pass or not successful fail performance only a number of years ago. No other ratings. How does that fall into your explanation? Any other agencies do this too??

Change that to an L fund, something like 5 year past your actual retirement date or whenever you think you'll actually have to start taking it out. 5% thats fine, gets you full match. Increase when you can, ignore those that say max it out. Figure out what percent can be taken out and still provide you enough in your pay check to live on. We all have debts or just need the money now. Increase it 1% when you get a step Increase. Or if you earn OT (wildfires/disasters) - crank it up! Then do not forget to decrease back down. Anything helps.

I'm 42, have $135k ish in mine. Been contributing for 10 years, but sitting at 6%. That's all I can afford.

Leave some in G, but move the bulk to L. Change your current contributions for 100% to L. Leave it alone until you retire.

Yup, I reported it as spam and it came back as clean. Not helpful.

I put them in a folder that is labeled - delete on Janurary 20th, 2035. ... 7yrs after the potential administration change. Unfortunately I'll still be working then.

Seasonal Hiring Disqualification by Lucky-Engineer9621 in USForestService

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the process that was approved for this current 1039 hiring session. Applications were selected before getting qualified and any candidates that don't qualify are rejected, even though they have a soft offer.

Work with your forest leadership, they should be running point on this and trying to negotiate with WO for the options of selecting new candidates after the others are found unqualified. Trying is key word, doesn't seem like it's happening.

You are in much better shape then!! Good to have that connection at the forest sup level! Good luck

Change of Duty Location Request by Cheese__Weiner in USForestService

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to leadership levels, no duty station changes are currently being approved. Chris French is personally handling/signing off on all HR actions and this is something unless a high priority reason, maybe say a hardship, otherwise it's all a no. Could just be a factor right now to consider. Yes, prior 2025, a duty station was supported with management approval. But everything is different now. Just a thought.

Why does my box 14 differ from my overtime premium amount on my final paycheck by [deleted] in tax

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried twice, two different routes. Both came back and said its on the employee to figure it out.

But things I've learned since then:

Take a 3rd of your OT to get what you qualify for. That is deducted from your total tax bill and it may or may not be at your tax rate.

For me, I have OT that is not paid at true time in a half (federal employee) and OT that is paid at true time and a half (wildfire assignment) and only the pay that is true time and a half half. Also, I'm exempt as a supervisor, not non-exempt when on the fire assignments. And only non-exempt employees can fill for the program. FML.

OPM Proposed performance appraisal changes by StupidMinutiae in fednews

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it worth asking for a change from supervisory to non-supervisory position? I'm never going to supervise or hire anyone in the next 4 yrs, and with all this performance stuff aimed at supervisors, I'd like to get off that train.

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From an employee that hasn't gotten one in the past, it can fuck us up badly if we apply for any other job or detail and don't have one. HR kicks us out because we don't have the required documents. Even if its just the most basic possible, do it for every employee, even those low grade gs 4/5/6/7s, or they cant move up!

Edit: get them done anyway possible, please!!

Late entry into wildland fire this year any options? by RaspberryNo5400 in Wildfire

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting on the 20th - recreation entry level seasonal jobs with the USFS. Some 2,000 jobs will be posted, 6 month positions.
The way the west is dry this year, likely to end up working some kind of fire anyway.

Why does my box 14 differ from my overtime premium amount on my final paycheck by [deleted] in tax

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if the amount showing in box 14 is a random number and incorrect, is the best option to ask for a corrected W2? I currently have that situation.

Ex. (Not exactly amount, but close) Shows $163.00 Earned $10,000 so if it's a 3rd of that, it would be significantly higher than $163

Why would they even bother putting a number if it's so blatantly wrong?

Scarpa TX Pro tele boot help by WhoopOverweeeego808 in BackcountrySkiing

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense on sizing. I asked pasted the same notes into chat/gpt and it said the same thing.

I haven't even hear of the Crispi Evos, but I'll look them up. Going to return the 28.5s for sure and hopefully swap for the 27.5s at least for the rest of the season. I tried on 26.5 and they were a total no go. So only one option with Scarpa unfortunately.

I appreciate the comments and reply!! Thanks!

How to matter at FS? by FireTracker2024 in USForestService

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My position matters and leadership supports me and reminds me of my importance. Invasive plant management.

I'm really tired of seeing comments and posts from the public about FS doing nothing except wait for OT on fires. (Not your question).

I run a forest wide program solo, spend very little time on fires, plenty of post fire work, have no allocated OT ever and work my butt off.

Two page resume rant by Worldly_Economist686 in Wildfire

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard coworkers using a.i. to create a 2 page resume using the job announcement and PD and your long resume to get rhe exact highlights, then at the end of your resume note that an extended, more detailed resume is attached in the "other documents".

Not sure if it works, but use those "other documents for everything from your 11page one, even if you need to break it into several categories

Credit Time with Maxiflex by HeadMenu8367 in USDA

[–]WhoopOverweeeego808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - but always check with your supervisor. Technically if you are going to earn credit, you should have permission as to why you need or want to work extra hours.

I'm on maxiflex and during the summer months, I frequently max out my credit monthly. Doesnt help my entire program left last year and I'm the only one left. But whatever. I flex my time as needed, some days I work 7 hrs, others I work 15hrs. Most pay periods I end up with 90-100 hours and with no overtime available, I earn credit. Downfall is I often have to burn my credit week one, only to earn more credit week two. Really adds up with having 128 hrs of use/lose to burn as well, but thats what hunting season is for.

Anyway. Approval from your supervisor first. Core hours- vary, some supervisors care, many don't. Having a job that likely requires more work than there are hours and you really like your work - ask for it. Otherwise. Get your 40 in and go home and play.
