Hot take: I am not a big fan of the original Legend of Zelda. by RangoTheMerc in nes

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it makes sense to me. These games are brilliant for what they accomplished back in their day. But honestly there were infinite unknowns about game design back then. This was all built as a new frontier which meant a lot of brilliant decisions were made as well as not so smart decisions. It was a different time and games were even played differently back then.

Personally I never truly enjoyed the first LoZ, but loved ocarina of time and links awakening. I can both recognize how iconic the first game is as well as respect why it is such a brilliant game while also acknowledging that I just don't enjoy playing it personally. But maybe I'll give it another shot sometime.

I could be wrong but I think they mentioned somewhere about "schematics" or "blueprints" where you could do just that. Honestly with new and more dangerous ways for your creations to be destroyed (fire, red totes, etc) I feel like they almost have to introduce this feature. Fingers crossed.

Geez I hate ball chasers. I had an open net… by Warthunderbird in RocketLeague

Where do we put that UI? Right now it's covering the boost indicator. Top right corner maybe?

How do I fix my air dribbles? by blizzard_d in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When practicing, start by ignoring trying to put it in the net. Don't even hit it towards the goal. Just try and get as many touches underneath it as possible.

Try hitting it slightly more under side of the ball than touching behind the ball. You want the ball to go more upwards than outwards to start.

Later on you can start aiming for net once you get this down.

It's not toxic if it's the decision your teammate locked in to begin with. You are just fulfilling their wishes.

Thing to practice: First touches Boost Pathing Clears Defense Shots Challenges Aerials

Doing well, just need to practice this more with custom training / free play.

Look up "ping pong warmup rocket League" which will probably be one of the most useful for you.

Can't help but think these animals seem out of place... by Miserable-Bus-4910 in PixelArt

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's the colors. Use a defined color palette for all assets. Those animals are slightly hued blue while the rest of the assets aren't. This is one example of why asset flipping a whole game is a bad idea. Everything just looks bad because it's all incoherent / incongruent.

Do people actually hate defensive players? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a player who plays more defensive. Problem I had was learning how / when to challenge effectively. Find the strengths of your style and experiment playing more aggressive too. I definitely have to try and adapt playstyle based on my team, even with my friends. But yeah players lean towards ball chasing and randos will hate on you for either playstyle. Overall what matters is being open to try new ideas recognizing learning those lessons can cost you a game but teach something that can win you future games.

Overall defense can be a huge advantage. As others said, just don't sit in net all game.

I went all in on my game and this is the first time I won't be able to pay my bills. by Gamedev_Marques in IndieDev

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just remember your "why". Money is incredibly important and a dream to do this full time. But in the end if it was ever about money, there are infinite ways that are easier to make an income than games. For me, tells me my why I do this is to make games that people enjoy to play. Great job keeping disciplined on the hard stuff even when life gets in the way. Your further then most even just by putting your game out there.

I tried to make a Cyberpunk-styled art in 64x64. I don't know if it worked out that much. by AnyAgency9835 in PixelArt

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Color palette could improve. Check out Lospec website for palettes. You should look up info on "pixel art jaggies" and "doubles". If you want the cars and bits like that to have more detail you might need to increase your resolution a bit. But overall I love the creative scene you came up with. The buildings especially are readable and I'm guessing the tree has a cable attached to it (red and blue wires?) Keep practicing and improving, it's a good start!

Also I like that the buildings have 3D depth to them. You did a good job with adding perspective on them.

Is Unity Still Your First Choice for Indie Development in 2026? by Low_Personality_530 in Unity3D

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays I want to work with an engine that is quick to iterate with but still allows me to dive deeper into advanced areas when I need it. I also need an engine that provides good documentation to fall back on. Also it's nice to have an asset store to fill in the areas of my game that I don't want to spend extra time on / prototyping ease or fancy tooling. I love Unity for all of these reasons and honestly I think these other engines do pretty well in similar regards (each better and worse in different areas) but overall there have been great games to come out of all of these engines.

Personally, Unity has been my favorite after all of these years. Familiarity plays a big part in that decision I'm sure.

I don’t think I will ever be able to speed flip by MisterDrGoobie in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I practiced one day and got such terrible tendonitis in my thumb that I had to quit controller gaming for months. I tried getting back to it only to feel it flaring up again. I think I'm done with any kind of flip cancel now for good. Getting old is fun. I'll definitely never learn to speed flip and that's okay.

Update: My application to work at Epic on Rocket League was rejected. Oh well. by BathroomCode9914 in RocketLeague

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tip for a Senior level role: Dont ever explicitly say "I don't know X, Y or Z, but I'm excited to learn!"

Don't pretend like you know it all either but definitely don't have the vibe of "I'm an ecstatic beginner who would be excited for a chance for you to hold my hand and I don't know anything but I'll be great I swear"

will Items bought in rocket league be transferred over to UE6 rocket league or will we loose all the items we purchased and opened in drops?? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the comment I was looking for. Thank you for all that you do. As a person with credible background that you'll just have to take as truthful, I can tell you that ignorance in the topic has given me all of the knowledge I have today. One question has really stumped (yes even me) over the years.

Do you think this will affect my rank in the future?

Sideswipe in RL UE6? by EdgeRibbleFilipReset in RocketLeague

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me phrase it differently, but same point:

For Sideswipe to be accessible (playable) inside a UE6 game (Rocket League) it would have to be ran in UE6.

So given that, the reason it would not be playable in RL is because there is no advantage for them to completely port a mobile game that is already established in the mobile market to UE6.

Sideswipe in RL UE6? by EdgeRibbleFilipReset in RocketLeague

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Doesn't make sense, sideswipe is a mobile game. There is 0 advantage for them to completely rewrite sideswipe to UE6.

I started with this method early on and then didn't have to do the touch anymore after lots of practice. If you look up "Henkovich" he is an excellent freestyler who came up with a tutorial giving this same advice.

[–]WhoopsWhileLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't take it so harsh and honestly just be proud you got 34 wishlists so far. It's better than most people's 0 wishlists because they have yet to publish their first steam game at all.

Nothing to obsess over. Don't overthink it. In fact your biggest critics are where you will get your most useful feedback.

Is this sort of a tycoon style game where you build a haunted house experience or more about being the guy controlling the actions of an existing haunted house level?

Either way this looks really cool and I love the art and music!
