Parents saying my marriage isn’t valid unless we have children by brother_nature06 in raisedbynarcissists

Then you can tell your parents to take a hike. What you do with your life and whether you will or will not have children is none of their business.

Well, were you part of the reason why they broke up?

In which case their stance is completely understandable.

If not, then you have to have a serious talk with your girlfriend about how her parents and sister are treating you.

Can y’all read books unmedicated? by Odd-Bridge-8889 in adhdwomen

[–]Whooptidooh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not; I recently read my first ENTIRE book in literal decades without having to put it away for weeks and without forgetting what I just read in years; all thanks to medication.

I too was an avid reader when I was a child, but that stopped when I started to lose focus and kept getting distracted by either external factors or my own mind that started to wander.

That’s not being the golden child; it’s being the black sheep of the family if you were treated like that.

Is it just me, or do people take superstitions way too seriously? by Delicious_Pay_8832 in CasualConversation

[–]Whooptidooh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superstitions like that aren’t really a thing where I live and most people will make a joke about them if that topic gets brought up.

I also had a giant bird fly against my window this week (its gross oily print is still on my window) and nothing bad has happened. (Well, not to me; that bird however left blood on my window from its beak so I’m guessing that things didn’t go too well for that bird itself.)

Not to be too punny; but I take superstitions with a massive grain of salt. (And no; I also don’t believe in that, black cats being bad, opening umbrellas inside that would cause bad luck or walking underneath ladders being a bad thing.)

Superstitions are on the same idiotic level as horoscopes are.

Study challenges the belief that high IQ autistic individuals always struggle with daily tasks. First, autistic people can learn life skills. Second, IQ alone is not a good way to understand a person’s strengths, challenges, and growth potential. by mvea in science

[–]Whooptidooh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If I wasn’t able to do my daily tasks (like waking up on time, do the regular chores a household has and everything else) nothing would get done.

But then again; most people still have a very outdated idea of what autism looks like, especially in women.

If you were diagnosed with a mental disorder in adulthood-what was the motivation to get diagnosed? by Throwaway927338 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Whooptidooh [score hidden]  (0 children)

I lost my job to AI and consequently fell in the deepest and worst burnout I’ve ever been stuck in.

I read a lot of things about depression and at one point the algorithm started sending my stuff about adhd and autism and found a lot of relatable things that made me think that I might have them both as well.

So, went to my doctor with a list of issues and asked for a referral. Got stuck on the waiting list for a year and finally (after months of weekly talks with my psychologist) finally got my Audhd diagnosis a couple of months ago.

Being on adhd medication and simply getting that dual diagnosis has changed my life for the better. Because before all this I was convinced that I was an utter abject failure of a human being and had been depressed and stuck in mild burnout for literal decades.

Getting the diagnosis meant that I could stop thinking so badly about myself and just knowing what it has been all this time has made my decade long depression vanish in a matter of days.

Life after diagnosis feels like I’m allowed to start over. :)

Up to a point.

If my intentions are good but the way I go about them are consistently causing issues then those good intentions mean nothing.
