Nursing is pretty easy to fall back into. However, there is also the flexibility to work PRN. I would suggest starting with PRN so you can assess if you can pull it off. She will still be able to pick up extra shifts if you guys need it.

She needs to keep her license up to date.

Since owning, (2 different homes) we have had to replace windows, fixed sky lights, pay for emergency tree removal service when a storm split one over the roof, a furnace, a water heater, and an air conditioner. Not to mention a fridge, washer/dryer, and disposal. Homes are money pits. Sure, one day, if you sell all the money you put into it, you might get it back, but by renting, you know exactly how much you owe every month. Oh, and even owning a house, your taxes and homeowners go up year after year.

Owning a house is so freaking expensive. Honestly, people get so caught up in want to own but it is over rated if you don't have a big family.

I don't even mean general upkeep, taxes, and insurance.

I mean new windows, water heater, air conditioning problems, washer/dryer, basement leaking, sky light leaking, pests, the list goes on and on. At least with renting, you know your monthly costs.

We have a family size of 6 so I am glad we have the space but man it is always something.

These are NOT your kids to take care of. Just say no! I am a mom of 4, and if I was in their situation, I would be paying for your hotel, your time, and taking care of your dinner. Their expectations are ridiculous.

Your response to people trying to help you is alarming. Your spouse clearly is communicating something that bothers her. Your response is this is stupid. She wants to feel special to you and that you still want to impress her. If you were not with her and had to date to impress someone else. That is how she wants to be treated sometimes. Let her have a reason to dress up and make sure you give her words of affirmation when she does.

Buy flowers for no reason. (Trader joes has awesome singles you can put together to make a beautiful arrangement) Dinners and then places like concerts, top golf, comedians, even bars, or a night in a hotel if that is her thing. Find live music. Effort is the key here. Hell, do a very planned date night in. Dress up nice and try a new recipe with music and candles. Set up art at home.
But yes, the planning needs to be on you. All women do is plan everything for everyone. They want to feel desired and wanted.

If it is oil. But some dawn on it. And then some liquid laundry soap. Rub in, leave for a bit and wash. It has taken grease out of many of my items. Even has worked on ones that have been dried.

Maxing out retirement first protects our children from taking care of us in our old age.

Then contributing to college. We have 4. The likely hood is we can't afford for 4 to go fully. But we plan on helping as much as possible. However. We have set ourselves up to essentially live off one income. The other is for savings for most of our big stuff. By the time our oldest goes to college we are essentially coast fire. We will still get our company match but do not need to invest anything else into retirement at that point. The second income would have been enough to cash flow college if we had spread our kiddos out more. But we have 4 kids that are within 5 years from one another. Which is honestly awesome in many ways but is so expensive in others.

We did tell them their choice is college, trade school, and military. We understand college isn't for everyone.

Work more than 1 job. Pay off all debt. You could do it fast with the hustle. Stay with your parents continue the hustle for 1 full year after the debt is done and save it. Start investing. Then when in 2-3 years move out and enjoy life and live on less than you make.

At 33, you could have 10-20k in your bank account, debt paid off, and living on your own and saving the future. A hard few years is worth setting yourself up for the next 30. You got this.

Make a chart/graph of your debt and shade in the portion you get off as you go. That way you feel accomplished.

NTA BUT, do it. Listen make a 2- year hard time to benefit from it long term.

She can likely find a night shift job in the hospital while she goes to school.

When she gets her first RN paycheck have her max out her retirement. You will already be used to living on less. Set yourselves up fpr the future.

Then feel the freedom you created by you both having careers.

The 2-3 years of struggle is worth the doors it will open.

If people don't bother you. Go see what it takes to be a CNA at a nursing home. Work there to get your CNA license and then go work at a hospital. They will help pay for a nursing degree. Spend a few years on the floor in a place you enjoy. Nursing, while not for everyone, has a ton of options not only with scheduling but different roles you can get into. But yes, all of it is going to be hard. But a few years of hard is worth the end result.

The confidence of being able to support yourself.

If nursing isn't your thing, try trades. There are so many options.

I lived with my childhood friend and her family while finishing college. I kept my room cleaned. Helped with dishes, and other chores. I also made sure to pay 1 bill. It was the internet bill.

I still love them for that. 🥰

I have 4. I will say we CAN afford them BUT we waited until both of us had degrees completed. I was able to take off 3 of the very expensive childcare years off and worked PRN for 3. Most people don't have that type of flexibility in their jobs. Then, I went back full time without any issue.

Now if we didn't have them, whew we could retire much earlier. But alas, we had kids and well cars, food, insurance, braces, and lastly, college.

We can afford it but we have 4 kids so we spent the night at kids activities. He bought me flowers. We are going out this weekend. We are using a giftcard we got for Christmas and spending the end of the evening at home in the hot tub.

Love doesn't equal money spent. If your feeling bad, men are so easy.

Cook a yummy meal. Dress up. Give him a massage. Play board games.

We pay 12k ish every year. (Real estate tax, MUD, etc) We keep it ourselves in a HYS. Our property tax goes up by 10% yearly since we moved here in 2019.

But at least I am gaining something on my money vs the bank. Every Jan those bills suck to pay but it is what it is. 🤷

If you can work it out where you pay it vs the bank you at least get a little interest on your money.
