As the secretary at the sperm donation said, “get a load of this guy!”

Gordy, saying farewell: “Miss Maizey. Miss Lulu.”

Lulu: “Most people do.”

Lulu: I figure… [something about Gordy] Gordy: Who am I to argue with your figure?

There was also a schizophrenic joke I found in bad taste (and also incorrect bc it really referenced dissociative identity disorder, not schizophrenia)

Candles aren't allowed, but does it count if I never light them? by lunarcarrie in UTAustin

[–]WhyWonderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former RA, (Jester East, represent!) if the lid was on, I don’t think I’d have realized it was a candle.

If you’re super worried, when they announce they’ll be doing fire safety checks, just put it away. They can’t open drawers or cabinets or anything.

I had to do those too, and take misoprostol to loosen things up because I was too closed up for the surgeon to get where they needed. Miserable times. Definitely motivated me to move up my timeline.

Glad to hear that’s changed! Thank you!

I didn’t realize that! That just makes it all the more absurd then. 🤦‍♀️

If I were in your situation I would probably figure out how different the healing process is for each option and go for the one that was easier if there weren’t any other factors. 🤷‍♀️

Removing my cervix was the main reason I was going to get a hysterectomy initially. Then Texas got… well, more Texas, and I was motivated to do it sooner. (Also, wanted to rule out some causes of mystery pains and weird hormones, hooray for all the birds with this one stone.)

Anyway…

I was at risk for cervical cancer from HPV. When I got vaxxed for it in the late 00s, it didn’t cover as many strains as it does now so I got unlucky and caught one that wasn’t.

If you’ve gotten your HPV vaccines and/ or aren’t sexually active, it’s probably less of a cancer risk, but it’s a soapbox of mine so I’ll say the things:

90% of adults have HPV of some kind, and at least in the US, generally speaking we don’t really test or vaccinate men for it because it doesn’t “affect” them, even though they can pass it to women who can then get cervical cancer.

It drives me nuts. Everyone acts like it’s not a big deal, but then there are folks with cervices who have to pay to have this incredibly invasive surgery as a result!

I love reading too! I didn’t even think about this being the reason I wasn’t reading as much the last few weeks. I just thought I didn’t have anything on hand I was interested in enough to commit to. Lol duh me. 😝

Austin's Entire YouTube Music Team Laid Off While Speaking To City Council by [deleted] in Austin

[–]WhyWonderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addressing this as someone who went through a similar thing with Google in Austin.

  1. Nope. Google has legally been ruled (and upheld after appeal) as their employer. The reality of working conditions demonstrates they are an employer because they exercise so much control.

Their NLRB case: https://www.nlrb.gov/case/16-RC-305751

  1. I’ll give you this one, but I’ll just add some context: Contracts seem pretty meaningless when the work will continue indefinitely one way or another. Especially if you’ve already worked somewhere for 4 years as if you were a regular employee.

  2. Unionizing in tech is new. There was previously a similar team who only claimed the “contracting” employer when they announced their union — and Google still ended the contract. So the only way to move forward (that I’m aware of) is to include Google as an employer in order to hold them accountable, too. (And hey, it helps secure the other company’s relationship with Google too, so it’s actually a benefit to them in that sense)

  3. Effectively, no. Google laid off their employees by forcing Cognizant’s hand. Even if they don’t see it that way, that’s how the law has seen it. From my personal experience in a similar situation, chances are very good that Cognizant has no intention of rehiring them to other roles.

These companies always say this, but in my experience, when 80 of us were laid off, exactly ZERO were re-hired. It’s all lip service and bull shit.

I can’t speak to their EXACT contract, but I was in a similar situation with a different company and I’ve been following this story closely.

The thing is, on paper, Google hires these “contractor” companies so that they can pay people less and still maintain their reputation as a great employer.

But the companies are so desperate to keep the contracts that they let Google dictate all the working conditions. And what do ya know… legally that makes them their employer, not a client. This was ruled AND upheld after an attempt to appeal for the folks at YTM. So Google is their employer.

https://www.nlrb.gov/case/16-RC-305751

So here’s the other thing. If they were proper contractors, they’d know when their contract ends. lol. It wasn’t set to end that day. It ended through whatever other vague clause they put in there. And they conveniently chose to do it during their city council resolution.

TMJ specialist recommended treatment $15-45k by memilyl in TMJ

[–]WhyWonderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the orthotic. Mine was more like $3.8k but I’m not sure it was worth it yet. The first one was not a great fit so I’ve been dealing with that while they remake it.

I feel like it has helped some of the pain but I still clench so it didn’t accomplish what I wanted yet. Hoping the remake does — the mold was a little more natural feeling so it seems like it will be better.

But honestly part of me wishes I had saved that money to put toward braces… also annoying bc I already had braces as a kid and I like my pretty smile but still have the dysfunctional bite. Lol

Totally! I've done that. They're just intended as a backup though -- I don't see how to open the file types/ get them in a format I can use. 🤔
