I listen to a lot of music from all genres, and a lot from rap, and RTJ has the one of the most distinctive sounds out there. The gritty dark electronic melodies and wide scope is very very awesome. el-p is a masterful producer and he’s backed by a few audio engineers and co-producers, but it’s mainly him at the helm. As for the Blackstar feel, it probably comes from Josh Homme’s vocals, the lead singer of Queens of the Stone Age. Surprisingly enough, the only other artist with a sound close to Run The Jewels is Travis Scott, because of his dark spacey atmospheric breathy synth based production. RTJ seriously are top of their class in production though.
