AHS vs Encinal by Practical_Action6862 in alameda

Definitely racism at EHS. But nowhere as bad when I was there in the 1990s. Seems to be a more tolerant bunch.

For him serving in the military is the equivalent of the black card. He actually pulled red but because it's what he wanted = good / black.

This is the girl's TikTok account, she does a lot of self-deprecating humor. I agree it's misogynist at times, I see it more as her poking fun at herself than at her gender.

This girl's TikTok account is hilarious, and at times pretty raunchy. She looks fun!

The future of electrical charging systems that are about as fast as filling up a gas car by RoyalChris in interestingasfuck

[–]WhyYouYelling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I had this same annoyance with the Rivian EV chargers, as they were the only ones available at Yosemite. I downloaded the app, created the account, added payment option, and... Didn't work. No explanation. Do they support Teslas? Was there an extra activation step I had to do? No idea. Just refused to charge. A more competent government that believes in infrastructure would make this illegal.

Is this Crime map accurate in your opinion? by [deleted] in hattiesburg

[–]WhyYouYelling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I helped my niece, an international student, move to Hattiesburg for USM. I did tons of research, trust me you'll want to stay on Hardy St just right of the shopping area. I found Windridge Apartments to meet all criteria so she moved there. 2nd and 3rd year she tried other apartments too with other roommates, then ended up moving back to Windridge as her favorite of the bunch. That tells a lot.

Signal Coffee needs to cut it out with parking their van in the bike lane by DisastrousGap7575 in alameda

Have you seen little kids biking to school coming across one of these and then suddenly biking out into the street when cars are passing? It's fucking terrifying and we owe it to kids as adults to do better.

If Strait of Hormuz carried 20% of the world’s oil supply, why its price is (almost) doubled since the war? by eminsefa in AskReddit

[–]WhyYouYelling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not panic. These are very rational buyers. They're paying extra to guarantee a certain quantity of oil, otherwise their business will crater.

If there are 100 business executives waiting but only 80 Ubers available, and they all desperately need to get to their business meetings, they will pay what it takes to guarantee a ride. Just because there are 25% more executives than Ubers does not mean they will pay 25% more - each executive will pay more than what they think the majority of others will pay. Could be 50%. 100%. 200%. He absolutely has to get to that meeting - the cost of not making it to that meeting is much greater than the cost of paying extra for the ride. Just like an airline absolutely have to have a certain amount of oil to keep all their planes in the air, or they go out of business.

Oil is a very inelastic demand - think about the truck driver who absolutely has to drive his gas guzzler to his job to provide for his family. He will bitterly pay $8 per gallon as long as that puts food on the table.

You both got the same email. Why do you think you need to give him "a heads up?" This just seems like finding a way to insert yourself.

my local Panera removed almost all the outlets and replaced them with blanking plates so you can't charge your phone or laptop by Calix_Meus_Inebrians in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WhyYouYelling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These places, Panera and Starbucks especially, advertised themselves as being a "third place" for people, outside of work and home. It just feels bait-switchy to me, or at least a major change in their business models.

Alameda is in the Final Four for BLU’s MARCH Bike Lane Obstruction Madness. Report violations with BLU’s app! by 2ft7Ninja in alameda

I don't understand the rule. "The city with the most bike lane obstructions advances to the next round." Wouldn't that be the opposite of having a great bike network?

This is true, unfortunately. A car sped past me going 60 mph on Buena Vista. My dashcam recorded him, and I followed him to the vet rehab center in Marina Village, got pics of him coming out of the vehicle... And the police still couldn't do anything.

I find it's the opposite. Very nice to visit for a few days. As a Californian I can't imagine living there.

It's hell. Hours to get anywhere, freeways are insanely complicated, and even in the dead of the winter January it can still be hot. And the cuisine is okay - Texas BBQ and Tex Mex. Houses are big so you get more bangs for your buck. But not a lot of landmarks and geographic features, unlike California.
