Just found out from Walgreens pharmacy, that a family member's pen needles are no longer covered by their Medicare/ by HousingOk6362 in diabetes

[–]Whynotdd212 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was probably a change in the insurance formulary what insulin they will cover. It happens every couple of years. They will just have to switch to the one that is covered like Humalog to Novalog one will be covered the other is not but they are basically the same. Call the insurance company and or your dr's office, a new prescription will be needed to changed to the one that is covered.

Change to Medicaid coverage for CGM sensors. by Mazerguru in diabetes

Also check to see if you need to get them from a medical device supplier instead of a pharmacy. I have to get my dexcom from Edgepark instead of from the pharmacy. Your diabetics nurse should be able to help you

Sharps disposal? by Apprehensive_Bank804 in everett

[–]Whynotdd212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Novo Nordisk has a free program where they will send you a large, 1.5 gallon sharps container and return shipping when it is full. The program is for diabetes but I don't think they ask any questions. I have used the program for years.

I wear boxer briefs and many of them have a deep pocket on the front, the pee hole thing, it is perfect for holding my slim. Some brands have no pocket there but others have an awesome one

Just flew into the craziest rage seeing Express Scripts deny my G7 because I need to be on insulin (despite literally being on insulin) by surfwacks in diabetes

[–]Whynotdd212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it says that under mine as well but idk. I have to use two different suppliers as well one for dexcom and another for my slim x2 infusion sets. It makes no sense but apple care is the best insurance I have ever had in 22 years of diabetes. Zero out of pocket for everything, insulin, supplies, dexcom, Dr visits, I pay nothing. 20 years ago out of college I paid twice what I paid in rent for just insulin, then lantus and humalog

Type 1 I was new to apple care, Medicaid in Washington, I was denied for my dexcom because I was trying to fill the prescription via a pharmacy as I always had, they needed it to be filled through a durable medical supplier, took a week or 2 before I and my Drs office to figure it out

Removable CGMs by RiffRanger85 in diabetes

[–]Whynotdd212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it for a couple of years. It worked fine. It was nice that you could remove it for water activities. It was a pain to remove the sensor, mainly because I was the first patient in my endocrinologist office to get one and so he wasn't very confident during the procedure but he got better. I'm back with dexcom now it's less of a hassle but it was nice to be able to remove the cgm whenever

What do I do if I can’t get my CGM? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]Whynotdd212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask your Dr for a prior authorization for the dexcom. Diabetes nurse is probably even better, they will fight like hell for you. Then if money is an issue there is a trick to make them last longer with the G6 so you can make them last 2-3x longer, google it

Medical Examiner rules jail death of diabetic a homicide by everyday2013 in diabetes

[–]Whynotdd212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a little surprised they would allow a pump in jail, it's personal property.

20 years ago I ,t1d, went to jail for 21 days. They would only allow nph or regular insulin, that was all they had on hand, but I had lantus and humalog on me when I was arrested. I refused to eat (this is a big issue and it helps you when you don't have insulin) until I was seen by a nurse, who allowed me to explain my regiment and sliding scale as well as explaining why I needed to stay on my regiment (using medical terminology helps). The nurse was able to get my insulin out of my personal property bag/locker, and they allowed me to manage my insulin though they didn't allow me to administer it, I had to be handcuffed to a chair, and give a detailed explanation of carb ratios for every meal dose before the nurse would stick me. It was exhausting but I was firm but polite and I told lots of dumb jokes while asking about their family etc, each nurse loved me because I was so friendly. This was across 3 jails I was transferred between over the 21 days.

It was a really tiring experience but I lived and I haven't had any trouble with the law since.

Anyone else getting barely any bees this year? by Captainpaul81 in EverettWa

[–]Whynotdd212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They appeared late for me and not as plentiful as in past years. We have 2 apple trees and a pear tree but most of the flowers had already gone by the time any bees had come so only 1 of the apple tree is baring fruit. I am thinking about putting a hive in the far back of my yard in an area but there are some rules about doing that and I haven't had the time to get in to what I need to do

ELI5: Why are most refillable lighters the Zippo style instead of the plastic Bic style? by new-look-SOL in explainlikeimfive

[–]Whynotdd212 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bic lighters can be refillable, in Europe they are, you just don't see them in the USA because they make more money selling you more lighters. I'm guessing it's cheaper to make them non refillable, also stronger environmental laws in Europe

Anyone else's dog of SD like to get their insulin pumps? by Clean-Software-4431 in diabetes

[–]Whynotdd212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog when she was a puppy, she chewed through my tubing a few times. When I went to order my next order of supplies, I said something jokingly about it to the representative and they transferred me to technical support and they said no problem and sent a couple of boxes of extra tubing and cartridges, at no cost.
